Canada has one of the strictest tourist visas in the world but one of the easier work related visas if you are university educated and a very easy work visa if you are in an industry that has high demand. Canada isn't anti immigration, it's anti tourist from third world or developing countries.

It's almost impossible to get a tourist visa from a third world or developing country to come to Canada. But it is super easy if you have a degree in a field that is in demand or want to attend university in Canada.

I am Canadian but I live in SE Asia now.

To qualify for a tourist visa in Canada you need to be a landowner in your own country, have a job with proof of employment, 6 months of bank statements and enough money in your account to cover all expenses. Even all that doesn't guarantee a tourist visa will be granted. My wife's parent's weren't approved for a tourist visa even though they are landowners in their country. They don't have enough money even though I submitted my financials showing that I would cover all their expenses. My niece is an architect and qualifies for a work visa under the fast track category even if she doesn't have a job offer and I can sponsor any relative for an education visa and they'd be allowed to stay after graduation if they are offered a job in Canada and be granted permanent resident status. It only tourist visas that are a bitch.

But damn. I didn't know Canada was THAT difficult to get into. They shouldn't be complaining about US then.
But what about the countries where private land ownership isn't allowed. But even somewhere like India, how many Indians actually own land?
So those people are simply out of luck.

Canada lets a lot of Indians in with degrees for work visas. But it is hard for Indians to get in on a tourist visa.

Refugees acceptance rate is based mostly on country and screening and not an issue. Lots of Ukrainians and Syrians lately and there filling construction jobs here that are in high demand. I'm a partner in a construction company and we're seeing lots of this.

No first world country needs a visa to be allowed in as a tourist. You have to show ties to your own country to prove that you'll leave and a return ticket home.

The problem is that if you overstay your tourist visa by 1 year, you can apply to stay and it's usually granted. It's very common for foreigners on a visa to do this and their success rate for staying is over 50% if they hide and don't cause any problems for 12 months.

Well you'd have to be a complete nong if you didn't think people from poor countries aren't going to make bogus claims for asylum once on the tarmac. Whereas people from Germany, Australia, New Zealand are pretty likely to go back to their well established wealthy lives once it is over and to start planning their next overseas trip.

by the way Oceania is a bogus concept. It is just try hard effort to group small islands together as a land mass... which obviously they aren't. Completely island-phobic that any person with two or more synapses to rub together should categorically reject.

What you posted reminded me of this other story I recently saw. In Turkey they rejected an LGBT ship with over 1000 people on board from docking in Turkey because they said LGBT doesn’t meet their moral standards. The only reason the cruise was rejected is just because the people on board were LGBT.

Based on the comments I saw online most people were actually cheering on Turkey for doing that.

Anyway but it’s their country so their rules. I’m not suprised that happened though. Turkey is a Muslim country.

Oh no. Justin was criticizing Trump's immigration policies in his first term and said they're welcome in Canada. Then when a bunch of them showed up at their border he closed it and put more guards and said, they can't just come in without being vetted

It's only wrong if the US does something, most other nations can fly under the radar and no one cares. It's the rule of the world.
