Should the immense success of Spider-Man be alarming to us on a social level?

A movie about a kid who has everything go wrong.
A good kid always fighting the good fight.
And for his troubles he gets a crappy apartment, a dead end job, flaky relationships, fleeting friendships, and constant loss.

The fact that so many of us relate to that so easily that we eat it up when it’s put into a movie proves that way too many of us live this life.

I remember Spider-man used to be a superhero for kids when I was a kid.
My parents didn’t relate to him.

But I do.
And so does nearly everyone I know and millions I don’t know.
Hence the success.

What is wrong with this generation?
How did it come to this?

Blame those Insecure human beings that happen to have a nack for becoming rich and powerful. For every Powerful Rich Man there are 1 million others that pay the price through not such an easy life. Maybe what needs to change is the examples we follow. I know money makes the world go round but surely we don't have to sell our souls for that alone. If new generations want to live a better life perhaps the bubble they live in needs to be burst and choose the path of freedom.

It’s been a while since I stopped watching Spider-Man movies.. but I get the point. I don’t think our generation is broken... I think media is intentional, conditioning us to accept struggle as normal instead of questioning why it’s become our reality…

Spider Man was really the first superhero that had a real life. Stan Lee created somebody who was not rich or had incredible powers. He was a superhero that had real life problems and having special abilities is not %100 a great thing.
Peter Parker was still picked on by the class bully. He had unexplained absences because he had to save somebody as Spiderman. Girls though he was a coward because when things got bad he was nowhere to be found.
It definitely was a lot more fun being BatMan

it would be alarming if actual adults went to see a blockbuster movie... and then think, that it does represent them and their lives, yes...

and then, assume that an entire generation, the rest of the men are pretty much the same

That was always spiderman and the other spiderman movies. In the comics to.

Losing uncle ben, losing gwen, losing his best friend Harry. Hounded by the daily bugle, scrapping by as a freelance photographer, huge number of villains to fight, a city who hates and blames him.

Spiderman was always successful. A dude barely scraping by in New York city, going to college, with a girlfriend getting knocked up after cheating with his enemy, his relatives dying etc. Is meant to be a bit relatable.

No but we have goals and aspire. No need to hide our identity. Not same. but peter was liked due to NOT being bruce wayne but being "neighborhood" spiderman.

That's most heroes throughout history. It's probably an Abrahamic interpretation. Jesus and Moses came from nothing and rose to great heights. Joseph was down and out but also rose to great heights.
