Why are lawmakers so quick to act when it comes to limiting your rights but not something like liveable wages?

They're currently writing laws that would make it illegal for your to fix and tamper with technology that you bought and own but saying you don't actually own it. Why? Because people don't want to see ads on their refrigerators and want to program their computers and fix them rather than having to pay to get them fixed. You can't tamper with your own belongings.

The laws of the US are meant to protect the rich and powerful almost exclusively. The laws are only designed to protect the working class in as much as they remain useful to the rich and powerful. This is why there are no protections whatsoever for the impoverished. It’s also why stealing so little as a single dollar from a bank is a felony. Meanwhile most states set a fairly high dollar value on felony theft if someone steals from you. Worse, if the bank steals your home and life savings, there are literally no laws to protect you from them.
Even the recent boom in casinos and gambling or “prediction” apps has revealed laws protecting those organizations when they decide to just refuse to pay out.
You could go to prison for stealing a loaf of bread to feed your kids, but if someone drains your bank account through your debit card, or runs up hundreds of thousands of credit debt in your name, no justice.

@Pterodon , as Deserter pointed out, the democrats only care about illegals for their votes, but he forgot about their access to entitlement programs creating opportunities for politicians to siphon off taxpayer money for themselves. Both fall under “the laws only protect people who are of use to the rich and powerful”.
I promise you that you can pore over laws in every state and the federal government, but you will only find exceptions in the US Constitution, which is routinely interpreted to benefit the rich and powerful, and dead letter laws. You can see glimmers of it in the criminal courts, where the state carries the burden of proof and the benefit of the doubt favors the accused. However, those same rules favor corrupt banks, corporations and multimillionaires and billionaires all the same. Plus the looney left frequently uses them to put dangerous repeat offenders back on the street to continue victimizing law abiding citizens.

limiting your rights is easy, just get a bunch of politicians to vote on it and bingo, you suddenly have to buy an electric car. Producing livable wages is a lot harder. It is a combination of different legislations like imposing tariffs on foreign imports and lowering corporate tax rates and creating policies to lower inflation so interest rates can be lowered. The American government is too dysfunctional to get it done.
