How much should we learn other cultures and languages to foster peace?

Mrs Peng has learned English, as so many Chinese learn now in early life... because English is dominant global language.

It's always amused me for how much the United States is a melting pot, that we are so un accomidating of other cultures that come into this country. I get it. It's partially fear of changing the country for the worse. But this country was BUILT on immigrant change.

I think a little common sense goes a long way. In this area.

I also think JFK said it best. "For, in the final analysis, our most basic common link is that we all inhabit this small planet. We all breathe the same air. We all cherish our children's future. And we are all mortal."

Those are key considerations that I suspect some forget. But the emtional differences cannot be sidelined. They guide the thinking and purpose. there is a big diff between west east and middle east. some may be able to tolerate others but only goes so far.

True. I'm not saying that they shouldn't assimilate to here. And if they absolute can't, or will not than this might not be the best place for them. But using your words. We can learn from other cultures.
