Yes. It is a meaningless pejorative used to misdirect people from an actual debate about pros and cons because to do so would require them to think, communicate and compromise.
It sounds spot on to me.

Gee, I wonder why all these policies scared people back then. It certainly has nothing in common with every dictator at the time that has slaughters tens of millions of their own people. Yes I am including Hitler.
@Snakeyes7 the nazis were socialist
It's in the name 🤷♂️
@FrodoSkywalker007 Hitler was also a huge fan of Islam.
So, let me get this straight. Are you saying that dictators who slaughter millions of their own people would promote policies like Social Security, and FDIC or support for farmers (like Trump is doing right now)? Well, I do agree that Trump has dictatorial tendencies and absolutely loves autocrats!
Oh yeah. Hitler had programs that got German people work, rent and price controls and took control of corporations by force imposing various regulations like requiring the spread of his propaganda and was the single reason Volkswagen exists. Guess what that name means in German.
The FDIC is one of the only things I agree with the New Deal because it actually benefits the typical person from things that aren't their fault.
Social Security is a textbook ponzi scheme. At least when it started, 65 was the life expectancy at the time so getting the rewards from it was a reward for surviving that long. Now people are living for decades off of it which it was not designed to do and it is just a lazy man's retirement plan. "Retirement plan? Pff. I'll just spend the last 35 years of my life exploiting the working class. Fuck em' I won't be alive by the time they find out they aren't seeing a single penny that I stole from them."
The idea that socialists care about farmers is hilarious to me. All over Europe, the farmers have been protesting for years because the government has done nothing but shit on them, just as the US has been doing to ours. It is because of the state that farmers cannot replant seeds from their own crop because it is considered intellectual property theft from seed companies (Bowman v. Monsanto Co., 569 U. S. 278 (2013)). If you want to know what Fascism looks like, this is it. To quote Mussolini, it is the marriage of the corporation and state. The literal best thing the state can do for farmers is fucking off.
Hmmm? Do the farmers agree with your policies? So, you agree that Trump is a dumb fuck? Is he shitting on them too? Republicans just want to be free to fuck everybody just trusting "free market forces"! You're too ignorant to realize that this is the ultimate marriage of "corporation and state"! Who needs unemployment insurance or Social Security? Works great if you're rich AF, but you aren't! Since your retirement is covered, I fully expect you to never take that Social Security "ponzi scheme" money! Yeah, just "privatize" Social Security... aka let rich fucks run it the way they see fit! Hey! Any of your elderly relatives taking that money or use Medicare? Tell them to stop immediately because it's all bullshit! Maybe, you and their lazy asses should just get another job and keep working until you take your dirt nap! Your understanding of American history is completely warped! Go back and review how we got out of the Great Depression... and the last financial crashes since then. But, since you're independently wealthy, it doesn't matter to you...
I just don't know what his plan is, but if it involves reversing a lot of policies that hindered farmers, then I am all for it.
It's a marriage if the state fucks off and let's businesses compete without intervening economically? I don't think you know what a marriage is.
I can't take any social security money. I am gen z and I know I will never see a single penny that was stolen from me not only because that system was flawed from the start, but it certainly wasn't designed for elders to use it for several decades at a time. The money pool will run out before I turn 65. I never said to privatize it, just removed completely because it is a waste and no one after gen x can use it anyway.
We got into the great depression because people placed themselves in a massive amount of debt and put too much faith in the stock market to help them recover. WW2 was the reason we got out as it gave everyone work and it jumpstarted the economy again. All FDR did was provide what was supposed to be a temporary relief but if anything it prolonged it.
I'm not independently wealthy, I'm broke. Because no one has any idea how the economy works, everything costs an arm and a leg and will just become more and more expensive while we continue to shoot ourselves in the foot thinking the state can strong-arm their way into a functional economy. We will eventually not have a foot anymore if we don't do something fast.
Absolutely true.
Yes.
Truman failed.
Eisenhower won 🤷♂️
Double check your US history... especially about the war in the Pacific! What were the specific economic policies that Eisenhower put in place? Also, since you hate Medicare , FDIC deposit insurance for your hard earned money and Social Security, make sure you don't use those things! Stop supporting those bratty ass kids going to public schools... and god, please don't feed them lunch! Also, write a letter to Trump and tell him to reverse the farmer support that is staving off a total economic collapse of farmers! That damn socialism is just killing us!
Check your history.
Truman used this quote to support Adlai Stevenson.
Eisenhower ended up winning 🤷♂️
I asked about the veracity of his words, not who won. Nice distraction though...
I'm telling you why he said those words.
That's why history matters
Repeating. I just asked if you agreed with the statement. That's it! I assume that you don't.
Never made a claim to either side.
So, thanks for not answering the question...
