Why wouldn't an employer have direct deposit?

I have never had a job before where my employer refuses to offer direct deposit. It is so annoying to have to hunt down my manager every other Friday so that I can get my pay check in the bank before 2. Why wouldn't an employer have it?

there are advantages and disadvantages

the reason is the size of the company, not the cost.

if the company was big, it would be cheaper for them to set-up direct deposit rather than have their accountant interrupted every so often to issue pay checks. As they become bigger, accountant's time becomes more valuable so the management will want them to work on more important things.

They do direct deposit for their clients but they won't do it for their employees. It's so frustrating.

I hate that too. one time the person who handles the money left for the day and I had to find my boss. took nearly an hour to get a hold of him when he wasn't busy. I worked there for nearly 2 years before I moved, and there were others who worked there even longer.

Cost, probably. The place I work at is a corporate chain and they're so incredibly cheap. They only had been offering it for management but eventually took that away too. It all boils down to cost. They'd rather you spend your gas money to come get your check than pay the extra to just have it sent to your account.

Have you asked him personally? A lot of times they have to pay extra for this. My friend was a manager at Subway and asked for it. They ended up firing him instead. They're just usually cheap.

Is it like a little hometown business? I know I worked at a restaurant that was just a little local place, and the owner/manager didn't have direct deposit. I'm not sure why though.

It is small but they have been in business for 100 years!

Well 100 years ago there was no such thing as direct deposit so that doesn't really matter lol. Sounds like they just haven't updated their pay system. Is there any way you can suggest it? Do you know if your coworkers feel the same?

lol about 75 cents for each direct deposit for each employee after a initial fee that can be anywhere between 50 and 100 dollars for their bank to set up.
