Why do I look better up close in iPhone pics, than when I'm far away from the camera?

Why do I actually look better close up than far away?

Far away my face looks mediocre and meh, while up close, I look spunkier and more full of life...

anybody notice the same thing?

I'm not sure what you specifically mean by "close" and "far" though... At any rate, any fixed lens camera has a distance "sweet spot" where it's a near perfect representation of reality, Any closer or farther than that distance and it distorts slightly. Maybe you noticed that.

Idk IPhone cameras really suck imo... Lighting is a huge factor for me when I take a picture. The one picture I like of my face taken with my IPhone is on my profile and I still don't really like it.

The better the camera the better you'll look.

Well not necessarily the better the camera the better it captures light more closely to a human eye. But I guess if you have a lot of flaws like skin problems than I guess that can be true.
