How should I answer "what are you thinking about?"

"What are you thinking about?"

I never know how to answer this question. I always freeze up.

I was hanging out with a girl last night that asked me and I thought quick and responded with "I'm just thinking about you". Then she wanted me to elaborate; "what are you thinking about me?".

I froze up again. What should I be saying?

Answering this kind of question depends on how much you like the girl and the personality of the girl. If she has a sense of humor, if she wants you to be serious...

I try to stick with either a sick sense of humor or the truth.

A sick sense of humor would go like this

Her: So, what are you thinking about?"

Me: Well, I was watching Criminal Minds the other day and it got me thinking... What would be the best way for me to be a serial killer without getting caught.

If she has a sense of humor, and has seen Criminal Minds you're golden... If not, that might be the last time you see her. (because she doesn't want to talk to you anymore, not because you killed her)

Otherwise just tell her what is on your mind before she asked that question. If you answer what is on your mind after she asked that question... your answer would be... I never know how to answer this question... fuuuuuckkk!

this question scares the sh*t out of me, cos it's always either nothing, or something completely insane (e.g. in the words of ed bryne, "i was just thinking this park would be a good place for a secret drop off; good sightlines, little chance of an ambush. You have to think about these things when you're the raven!)

Seriously though, if you are hanging out with someone, your mind should maybe be focused on what the two of you are doing, but at the same time, guys are like zen masters, our minds are basically blank most of the time.

i generally just say that I was wondering whether manchester united would win the league, or something completely uninteresting to the girl so I can move on.

Be honnest, that's the best you can do at that point. And if you aren't thinking at that point but just dreaming wide awake, just say so too...Honesty is more important than any made-up answer ; )!

I'd think it was the perfect opportunity to make her laugh by saying something totally irrelevant. ex: "What are you thinking about?" "...That I'm hungry". Or whatever...

Usually when someone says that they're looking to just talk about anything to kill the silence. Don't necessarily need to go all cheesy and "Well I'm thinking of you of course silly!"...

You don't know how to ever answer that question because it is a stupid question. The actual sentence means something entirely different than what it literally means. Men have a tendency to give the straight-forward and logical answer (e.g. "When the football game is on"), but women are looking for something different about them/both of you.
