Air Force Identifies Airman Shot And Killed By Florida Police

The U. S. Air Force said an airman based at the Special Operations Wing at Hurlburt Field, Florida, was shot and killed Friday during an incident involving a sheriff’s deputy.

Senior Airman Roger Fortson, 23, died at his off-base residence, the U. S. Air Force said in a statement released Monday.
A deputy responding to the call of a disturbance in progress “reacted in self-defense after he encountered a 23-year-old man armed with a gun,” the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release Friday.

Fortson was taken to a hospital where he died, officials said. The deputy involved was placed on administrative leave pending an investigation into the incident.

Fortson was assigned to the 4th Special Operations Squadron as a special missions aviator, where one of his roles as a member of the squadron’s AC-130J Ghostrider aircrew was to load the gunship’s 30mm and 105mm cannons during missions.

In a statement late Tuesday, Okaloosa County Sheriff Eric Aden said the Florida Department of Law Enforcement will investigate the incident and the State Attorney’s Office will conduct an independent review. He said the sheriff’s office was “saddened” by the shooting.

The Air Force’s 1st Special Operations Wing said its priorities are “providing casualty affairs service to the family, supporting the squadron during this tragic time, and ensuring resources are available for all who are impacted.”

Out of all of years since the end of World War II (1945), we as people will always look back at certain moments in history of when the world was going through so many changes. Whether it’s a good or bad. The 1980s and the Y2K era (Late 90s-2001) are the only times where everyone looks back on and everybody saying nothing but positive things about those years respectively.

But which era was the most optimistic period? The 1980s? Or the Y2K era?

In my opinion, the Y2K era. The 80s was still in a Cold War era. The crimes were getting worse towards the end of 1980s/start of the 1990s. Whereas the Y2K era was so optimistic. Cold War era was over, crime rate was going downward. Everybody was excited (and nervous) about the new millennium etc…

We're getting closer to half-way of the decade. I've been wondering what will the decade be known as for future generations as they take a look at the culture and events. I'm starting to think that the 2020s will be known as the nostalgia years of humanity. Now Ik it's an odd thing to say considering people get nostalgic every year of every decade but considering the current pop culture. Nostalgia has definitely been an all time high and affecting all of it when it comes to video games, movies, and music. So I'm curious if you guys agree on this. Please no hate for this thought

I have Israeli and Muslim friends, even Palestinian friends. I don’t like loss of life on either side. I don’t think what Israel is doing is a genocidal but it’s awfully close. Israel feels entitled to Palestinian land and wants it. Isreal also runs America. So what your told about the ‘war’ is subject to criticism.

Since 1973, 197 people have been freed from death row. Some because of prosecutorial (government) misconduct, and some have been freed because the court (government) appointed attorney was incompetent or failed to properly do his job.

As long as our judicial system is prone to mistakes, shouldn't the death penalty be off the table? Life in prison as the max gives the person more time to appeal.

I do. Just look at the state at the world is in. People cannot survive on the same wages that they did five years ago. I believe there’s a group of global elites who want us to believe that we can’t provide the same/better lives for our children.

Most recent famous case in the U. S. the prosecutor wanted to have the young man Kyle Rittenhouse condemned to prison when he clearly by video evidence was defending himself.

Old famous case where O. J. Simpson attorneys tried to prove his innocence when all the evidence clearly points to him being the murderer of his ex wife and her friend.
