1980s Optimism vs Y2K Optimism: Which of the two eras had the most positive overall effect on society?

Out of all of years since the end of World War II (1945), we as people will always look back at certain moments in history of when the world was going through so many changes. Whether it’s a good or bad. The 1980s and the Y2K era (Late 90s-2001) are the only times where everyone looks back on and everybody saying nothing but positive things about those years respectively.

But which era was the most optimistic period? The 1980s? Or the Y2K era?

In my opinion, the Y2K era. The 80s was still in a Cold War era. The crimes were getting worse towards the end of 1980s/start of the 1990s. Whereas the Y2K era was so optimistic. Cold War era was over, crime rate was going downward. Everybody was excited (and nervous) about the new millennium etc…

80s: politics was not as nasty. You could agree to disagree. No one called you a nazi or groomer because they disagreed withour political views. Politicians were not as nasty and vicious. The music was a LOT better

The Cold War was winding down, Vietnam was in the rear-view mirror. Computer tech and music tech (CDs, Walkmans, etc) were taking off.

Y2K optimism (I guess;don't hold me to it), because 80's optimism was largely based on the Gordon Gekko "Greed Is Good" mantra which spawned the soulless yuppies and began the dissolution of the great American middle class.
