And some of you want to restrict gun rights and magazines? There's 4 attackers, it would take a lot of rounds to take them out.

I don't want to hear about issues about accidentally hitting her husband, or errant bullets. Question is does she have a right to blast the attackers?

Fox could likely survive a nine-figure loss to Dominion, analysts say

Fox Corp. can most likely weather even the harshest financial penalty that could come from Dominion Voting Systems’ lawsuit, analysts say.

The blockbuster trial — originally set to begin in a Delaware court on Monday before being unexpectedly delayed by one day — will determine whether Fox Corp. can be held liable for false claims made on Fox News, the media company’s namesake cable TV property, that Dominion’s voting machines were used to rig the 2020 presidential election.

Dominion’s lawsuit seeks $1.6 billion in compensatory damages, an amount that experts said would likely be whittled down substantially depending on the jury’s judgment or in an out-of-court settlement. Fox said in a court filing Sunday that it believed Dominion had lowered its requested damages to around $1 billion, but the voting machine company disputed that, saying it had not reduced its claim.

The media giant contests any claims of liability or damages sought by Dominion, with a Fox spokesperson calling the lawsuit “a political crusade in search of a financial windfall, but the real cost would be cherished First Amendment rights.”

In the event Dominion wins its case, said Lyrissa Lidsky, a constitutional law professor at the University of Florida, the jury is highly unlikely to award Dominion all the money it’s seeking for what it says is the reputational damage exacted by Fox News’ broadcasts.

In theory, Lidsky said, the jurors could also impose punitive damages to punish Fox for “extremely wrongful conduct” and award an even higher financial penalty than Dominion asked for. But she said she had seen no evidence “thus far that suggests there are going to be damages at that magnitude, even though the damages may be very large.”

Personally I think in the vast majority of cases that is true. Human seem to be unable to hold authority without abusing it but authority is only tolerated because anarchy would lead to chaos and more suffering.

I came across a post on here about a girl with a condition that requires the use of a wheelchair, and she mentioned she's dealt with bullying growing up and it kind of made my heart sink. To be clear, I'm not suggesting it doesn't happen. But I can't even imagine anyone ever doing something like that, even if it's just coming from children who haven't reached a certain point of maturity.

So I'm curious how common it is. Have you ever bullied someone in a wheelchair? Have you've seen others do it?

Obviously not “every” act of violence. But obviously there’s a majority happening to people of color. Cops feel they can do this shit to them. Take out their rage. Whatever.

They have a side and I’m sure we’ll hear it in court. The teens were charged with impeding a road and assaulting an officer. Thrown out as soon as it hit courts.

The Supreme Court takes up a messy, chaotic case about religion in the workplace

Groff v. DeJoy, a lawsuit that could potentially revolutionize the balance of power between religious workers and their employers and co-workers, will be heard by the Supreme Court on Tuesday.

It is an agonizing case, in part because it seeks to unravel a very real injustice.

Federal law requires employers to “reasonably accommodate” their workers’ religious beliefs and practices unless doing so would lead to “undue hardship on the conduct of the employer’s business.” Nearly half a century ago in Trans World Airlines v. Hardison (1977), however, the Supreme Court said that an “undue hardship” exists whenever an employer must “bear more than a de minimis cost” when it provides such religious accommodations (the Latin phrase “de minimis” refers to a burden that is so small or trifling as to be unworthy of consideration).

Pretty much no one thinks that this “more than a de minimis cost” rule is correct. Even Americans United for Separation of Church and State — an organization that, as its name suggests, typically argues in favor of less entanglement between the law and religion — filed a brief arguing that “Hardison is wrong in too many ways to withstand scrutiny.”

But, while a reevaluation of Hardison may be overdue, Groff also will be heard by a Supreme Court whose current majority is so sympathetic to the interests of the religious right that it often advances those interests to the exclusion of all others.
