Have you stopped watching and/or lost interest in pro sports in the last few years?

I’ve not watched much pro sports in recent years.

Mostly because the entertainment value has dropped, but also because of athletes mixing politics with it; as well as many of them these days lacking respect and honor.

I agree I like my sports politics free, but that’s true for my work, my home, and everywhere else I’m at voluntarily.


That said, I’m sure you’ll have many people that stopped watching and I’m sure like you said it was primarily about diminished entertainment.


As far as the numbers go no major sports league is hurting from any of this. Of course while numbers don’t lie, people will use numbers to lie and you’ll get misinformation about “dropping revenues or viewership” but nothing that I’ve seen that stands up to any serious scrutiny.


If a major sports league has numbers saying objectively that their league was suffering because of a policy decision they’d react but it’s not happening. I’m sure some let not many overall for those that did any dip no matter how insignificant or unrelated MUST be because of their boycott. Conversely those that think it’s silly will insist the opposite.


Numbers tend to support the latter not the former as far as I can see.


I did stop watching the NFL once the entire league and all owners unanimously agreed it decided that kneeling for the national anthem was acceptable out of political expediency and to “stand up to the last administration”.


Everyone has a right to express themselves freely but it also important to educate yourself of your actions or accept that your ignorance can have consequences. Our flag our anthem isn’t racist, it has nothing to do with any perception or proven police brutality of claims of “racism”.


If you have a dispute with a neighbor you don’t attack the entire town out is spite if you’re a good moral person. You take up your issue with the people or people that you’re in dispute with.


The anthem or the flag it represents isn’t just a symbol of America. It’s the living representation of our nation and the sacrifices past and present our people have made so rude, ignorant, wealthy, over entitled athletes whom almost universally haven’t seen a moment of struggle or had to make a single sacrifice in life because of their exceptional skills and subsequent extravagant wealth has afforded them personally. Which would be impossible without the sacrifices the very men and women the openly disrespect in their “protest” of our anthem and the flag it represents is something I morally can’t accept.


Which is my right, as well as it is the NFL’s and it’s owners right to disrespect.


That’s called living in a free nation, where you can dissent even in manners that are so ignorant and so disrespectful towards the people that made your entitled life possible that only an exceptional people could openly tolerate it while respectfully choosing to agree or disagree with it.


This level of liberty is a unique and special privilege for Americans. It’s not a perfect system and in fact its been called the worst system that ever existed, except all the rest.


I’ve seen what that kind of dissidence can cause in other places. I am disheartened to see lesser extent of civil violence in my nation these past feds years which is unheard of in my lifetime. Which would require going back decades to some of our darkest moments in history to see in this nation.


So TL;DR no one objecting to any sports leagues policies is harming the leagues by any rational objective metric I’ve seen.


They have a right to protest in their own way peacefully just as anyone else does and just as they object to someone’s peaceful protest others can object to them too. That’s a free republic in action, it’s about tolerating the diverse point of view even if you don’t agree with them.


Something that’s rapidly eroding in this hyper partisan nonsense we have devolved into.

I lost interest in sports a long time ago. The athletes are covered in tattoos, take drugs, constantly spitting, and have hair hanging down like a caveman. The Olympics aren't much better. The networks are always trying to get a closeup shot of the athlete maybe holding back a tear, and we constantly have to hear some human-interest story about how so-and-so is in their last Olympics, trying to win the Gold for their grandmother who is dying of cancer, or whatever. I have better things to do.

I have greatly lost interest in the NFL due to the protesting and divisive behavior of the players with all the PC nonsense.
I used to be a huge fan who was crazy with anticipation like a kid on Christmas eve the night before opening day of the season.
I barely watched at all last season and I didn't really miss it either.
