+1 yI didn't even watch the match. I play football, but I don't watch it or really many spectator sports like basketball, American Football, etc.
So why am I submitting my opinion on this? Because from what I have gathered, this match is precisely why I don't watch televised sports. It's disgusting and toxic. Players trying to violently hurt each other, faking injuries, acting like spoiled little pieces of shit when they get second place and taking the medals for the place they earned off disrespectfully, fans pointing lasers at players' eyes, fans booing the other team, all of this rubbish is so far from what sports means to me. Even the emphasis on who "won" or "lost" is total BS and unimportant imho.
I play pick up with a random group. I don't care what the score is, and we rarely keep it. We balance the teams out, and play whatever side needs us. If someone is on the other team and makes a great play, I congratulate them and am proud of them for their accomplishment. I enjoy the exercise, the skill involved, and the teamwork. But most important to me is sportsmanship.
When I say winning or losing is unimportant, I mean it. I'm not the best football player, but I am very good at billiards. I've played hundreds of footie matches, and taken tens of thousands of billiards shots. When I shoot billiards, I could care less about who wins or loses. I've done both so many times, it doesn't matter. It's about the shot, about the strategy, making this shot, and lining up the next, seeing the future of how I want to manipulate the table to my end goal of sinking all my balls in as few shots as possible. My opponent doesn't really even exist to me, other than as a variable in the game should I miss the shot. I have no animosity toward them. I sometimes play people who make it obvious they really care a great deal about winning. I find myself losing respect for these people in proportion to the amount of energy and value they put into caring about winning. I see it as a weakness of ego. Normally when I play, I do some amount of adjusting the difficulty of the shots I attempt to draw the game out; if I didn't, I generally can clear the table within four turns, often within 2 or 3, occasionally on my first and only turn. But that's not much fun for opponents, so I tend to play according to their skill level. I want newer or less skilled players to feel encouraged and enjoy themselves as I enjoy the game. It also gives me opportunity to attempt shots which challenge me more and hone my skills. When I play with these ego-driven players however, I find myself just running the table to discourage them from wanting to play with me anymore, or to get to the next challenger when there is a line to "play the winner".
Back to football, when players and fans lose sight of the fact this is just a game, someone is going to score more or less each match and that's not the important part. The important part is playing with skill, teamwork, self-respect, and respect for your opponent for providing you an opportunity to practice.
All the behaviors people are talking about are completely immature and toxic.00 Reply

Apart from Shaw's great stroke of luck, Italy dominated the match, with almost total ball possession. Southgate imposed a strongly renunciatory way of play. After Shaw's goal, the English team closed in a hedgehog. Italy dominated the game reaching 65.8% ball possession.
When the British speak of Italians' anti-fair play, they should look to themselves. Sterling, Kane and thought they were at the European diving championships. Yet I have not heard comments from the English against these practices, the same comments made on Immobile. And Chiellini's "whatever it takes" tactical foul is a tactical foul if you know how to play football you should know that it is common.
Both the behaviour of the English public and the English team were ignoble. The English audience blew whistles and noises every time Italy touched the ball, which sounded like South African vuvuzela. Africans who have shown to hate given the insults to their players after the final. Outside the stadium they behaved violently towards the few Italian fans. It seemed to be back on May 29, 1985, at the Heysel stadium in Brussels.
The thing that disgusts me most of all, however, is that they proved to be just big children, grown in the body and not in the brain, when they collected signatures to redo the game. They think like 3-year-old children, "if I win everything ok, otherwise we will replay the game until I win".00 Reply
+1 yAs a English person I think it was unfair when the Italian player pulled a English players by the collar and didn't get a red card that's blatant cheating but to be fair on the Italians they played well and England got further then we ever had before and the English people had good fun whilst it lasted it's just a shame people are are so horribly disgusting when it comes towards race and are country they all hate us till they want another hand out and all want to immigrate to England. We do so much for other countries yet it's just popular to hate us for the sake of it. I'm not saying English people are prefect but you get scum bags in every country not just in England.

+1 yI think England should have pressed more after scoring early. England have players who can score goals but Southgate prefers not to play them. The plan seemed to be sit on a one-goal lead for 88 minutes, not possible against Italy.
Saka and Grealish should have been brought on before Italy scored, not after. We needed to win the game in open play, not allow a penalty shoot-out. Another mistake was bringing on 2 players at the end of full time just to take pens. Too much pressure on players coming onto the pitch cold, as their performance proved. Then young Saka thrown under the bus with our final penalty, not good with more experienced players available.
I don't want to criticise Southgate too much because his "negative" tactics got us to the final. He needs to learn from this. World Cup next year!01 Reply- +1 y
I don't understand some people saying Italy played dirty. I didn't like the pull on Saka's collar but otherwise it was just a normal game. I thought the referee controlled it well while allowing the game to flow.
England performed poorly in this match and probably didn't deserve to win.
They shouldn't have a 19 year old take the final penalty since that kind of situation requires an experienced head.
Nothing more to say on it.
England fans are well versed in disappointment.
There are also more important things to worry about. Such as the country's slide into totalitarianism.21 Reply- +1 y
Would you think the attitude of the government informs the behaviour of some "supporters"?
I'M SO PROUD OF MY COUNTRY, WE DESERVED THIS AND WE ARE STILL CELEBRATING THEM.

+1 yfrom what I could see, Italy played dirty, England's goalie played well, England fell off in the second half, they put way too much pressure on Saka and the England fans were assholes when the booed the Italian national anthem and were RACIST TO THEIR OWN TEAM THEY WERE SUPPORTING.
I think the ref was way too easy on the Italians tbh
I really thought that football was coming home, but nvm there's still the World Cup next year24 Reply- +1 y
@ifbaldrickwasagirl good points.
Agreed about the fans - +1 y
Played dirty? Really? Did you even watch it? England was dirty from the get go, booing our national anthem... that is such a low and immature thing to do, this would never happen if they played in our country, we respect them. You should have seen our faces when we heard the booing, we where all in shock and disgusted, i watched the game in our towns plaza, EVERYONE was just shocked and silent...
There was no dirty play, WE WHERE GOOD FROM THE GET GO admit it and move on. - +1 y
- +1 y
@natured Well, I agree with some of what you said. I did say that the booing of the anthem was a horrible, immature thing to do, but when the Italian player fouled Saka that seemed a little like dirty play.
I'm not saying they played badly - if it came across like that I'm very sorry, and I could have phrased that better. I think they DESERVED to win, just that they were (sometimes) rough and it's disappointing to me that England lost. That's all I meant to say
The England fans at the stadium were jerks and I apologise to you as an English girl.
I hope that makes sense x
Anonymous(25-29)+1 yIt was bad that English fans booed the Italian national anthem. also the racism they do to those who miss the penalty. England played well in the first half. Southgate's tactics were good. but England was very bad in the second half. For meSouthgate's substitutions were not good either. It was clear from the Turkey match that Italy would be the champion. Perseverance, ambition, struggle were everything. Italy really deserved it.

From what I could see Italy played really rough from when they fouled Saka and when they kept tripping the players over. I thought the England team deserved to win but the crowd were assholes

@ifbaldrickwasagirl nah it's fine dear. We gave them a much better life than what they had before
Opinion Owner+1 y@Retroxcj If u ask me, Your coach was awful. These substitutes and line up, tactics. but he is not the only one who is responsible for this results. Your players too. They played like they dont know why they are in this tournament and i am sure they even didn't work for tactics, training etc.
Pretty devastated that england lost but I got over it. Not getting over the racism towards the footballers though, absolutely terrible. England lost their game in the second half, as in they just started messing up. Good game from both teams though, well deserved win in any case

Anonymous(18-24)+1 yItaly should have got red cards for their dirty play. Pulling Saka by the kneck and Grealish getting kneed should have been a lot more than yellow cards. The ref was clearly bias.
Pickford was definitely the star of the match so well done to him and England did amazingly hopefully we can bring it home for the world cup!21 Reply- +1 y
What happened to saka was hilarious hahaha
+1 yI feel bad for the majority of English fans who have to suffer because of a few toxic people and the racial abuse the black players had to endure is inexcusable, but at the same time the memes and jokes are way too enjoyable for me to care about that right now!
If you weren't part of the fanbase who made fun of a crying german girl and are equally disgusted by that as everybody else, then the jokes are not about you so don't take it personally. Don't be the NotAllMen of football!10 ReplyI think it was an unfair match, Italy are dirty and won by penalties, not because they're any better.

So by that logic the match between England and Denmark was unfair too then? If anyone is playing dirty it's the English fans, who boos at another countries' national anthem? Or, you know, points lasers at the goalkeeper?
- +1 y
Lol, whatever, but attacking innocent people and even a child is okay? IT TAKES A LOT FOR AN ITALIAN TO DO WHAT THEY DID WITH THE FLAG, I don't generalzie and i have a huge respect for your people, but those individuals even verbally harrased their OWN PLAYERS, so please point the finger to the correct direction, If it was the other way around you'd declare all sorts of wars. C'mon now, this would never happen in ITALY EVER, we'd do everything to make y'all feel safe... this is stupid pointing back the fingers, really really stupid.
- +1 y
@natured I'm not sure you are understanding what I'm saying. I have AGREED with you, so stop assuming and read what I actually said. I am talking about the match, NOT the violence or aftermath. Your captain dragged down a 19 year old boy multiple times and got no foul for it - that is the dirty I am talking about.
- +1 y
@acooke-13 I agree with you, I am not even English but after watching it Italy did play dirty, they are just nasty players then would do something and laugh into the camera. They got lucky to win
- +1 y
What facts? They scored in the opening round, but they’ve played like rubbish. I'm sorry but if we're talking about facts that's a fact. No-one should begrudge Italy their victory, they deserved it... we are worthy champions. Italy were the most convincing team at the tournament. It's not our fault that we play more aggressively and with prudence. This is HISTORY, and everyone knows the way Italy plays, you are not a professional to state fake facts. SOrry not sorry but it's well deserved in every aspect.
- +1 y
@acooke-13 Don't expect many, if any Italians to agree because that's just how they play, especially their captain!
- +1 y
@acooke-13 ... so you agree that the match between Denmark and England was unfair and that England played dirty, but you still think England should have won?
- +1 y
Thing is, if that Italian gentleman didn't hold back Saka right at the end, he was through, and would have been about 5 metres ahead of any other Italian with his pace, and could have quite easily have scored.
That was just poor spirited blatant cheating.
Italians always have a kind of rogueish spirit about them. Quite a few of them could play pantomime villains.
But ultimately England have to accept, that they played shit when it mattered. Also, there was a fair bit of dubious play on their end, and a lot of easy falling in the penalty area! - +1 y
@acooke-13 .. yes I got that... but you see... by that logic england shouldn't even have made it to the finals

England on the other hand didn't and got dominated. I also think Southgate waited to long to send in his strikers. I feel bad for Saka, and Grealish or Sterling should have been taking that last shot.00 Reply The result was unfair. England deserved to win and no, I'm not English.

EU is European Union, basically an economic and political organisation for like 25 or so European countries in terms of trade, tax, immigration etc and UK voted to leave a few years back but we couldn’t decide the terms and our leaving date was pushed back and it’s definitely hurt relations between UK and Europe - +1 y

@DaisyM23 I'm pretty sure if Europe vanished we wouldn't notice. We're pretty self sustained. We've actually been pretty much closed off from the world for a year now and nothing has really changed. @Jennifertoubl yes... things that can be found in most other countries, nothing that makes you stand out... you’ve been closed off to the rest of the world because of covid and because you’ve been trying to sort out your political mess.
Also you didn’t invent vaccines, the guy who first invented was Edward Jenner with smallpox and he was British. The other guys who later developed them were french and german and the guy who discovered penicillin was also British. Yes an American created rockets but it was a russian who first went to space. Can’t argue about ford or tesla though, although ford cars are more popular in america anyways, but then you could say the first automobile was by a german... - +1 y
Ok whatever I have no idea, nor do I care, all I know is I'm perfectly happy with us staying closed for the time being. Not being overrun by tourists is a true blessing and I hear immigration is way down (usually we get more than a million people from every country on the planet seeking a better life.. not that I can blame them
