In a few hours, some of my husband's friends will show up at our living quarters, gather in my husband's man cave with sports memorabilia everywhere. They'll be wearing Kansas City Chiefs shirts, hats, and other apparel to show their support for the home team. At least two will be wearing #15 (Patrick Mahomes) jerseys. My husband, the grill master and sports enthusiast, will put some Bratwurst on the grill, feed the hungry mouths, and I will have plenty of chips and salsa, nuts, and other assorted snack food and beverages at the ready. It will be calm and peaceful until kickoff, then the volume will increase. That's when "Living Room Rage" kicks in, and the noise level in my usually peaceful living quarters will rival that of a stadium full of people.
Despite claims of armchair quarterbacks that players, coaches, and referees can hear them through the TV, there is no conclusive evidence that screaming at a TV set during a game will influence its outcome. Some will boast something like "I told the team to throw to Kelce, and look that's just what he did and we scored, so there!"
It wasn't until baseball season last Summer that I realized I married a Living Room Rager during sports events. I was in the business area downstairs and heard screaming from my otherwise quiet husband coming from upstairs. I yelled upstairs to see what was wrong. Since I got no response, I went flying up the stairs as fast as my skinny little drumsticks could carry me only to find him yelling at the TV. From that point on, we made a deal: either give me warning there's an important game on, or at least respond when I call up to see what's wrong. When I pointed out the players couldn't hear him, his immediate response was "oh yes they can, I know they can."
