What did you think of Rihana’s Super Bowl performance?

I'm a live event designer- particularly focused on lighting design, but also rigging and staging- so I always nerd out a bit over these. I saw the flying platforms and immediately knew they had to be from TAIT Towers in Litz, PA. The engineering that went into those and the programming required to run 8 hoists at various angles and still smoothly lift those platforms without tilting them is insane. Add to that a flying camera moving in 3 axes, hanging from its own cables that had to be coordinated to avoid hitting any of the platforms, and its even more impressive.

For those worried about her flying while pregnant- the team from TAIT that designed, built, and operated those platforms and winches were the best of the best in the industry. At least a few of them were on the committee that wrote ANSI E1.43 - 2016 - the standard for performer flying. That team knew what they were doing. Rihanna was clipped in the whole time with a fall restraint harness- she physically couldn't get close enough to the edge to fall.

I felt so old watching it. I hadn’t heard a Rihanna song in years and then realized halfway in that she hasn’t released anything for years and then I realized she started to look older and then I realized that she’s a bit younger than me and that if she’s starting to look old then that just means I’m really old and I started to get worried and then it was over. It was all very intense for me and then all I heard after the halftime show was how “blah” and “meh” it was, which made me feel even older. It was all too much for me. I may not be able to handle these halftime shows any longer.

The dance and costumes were phenomenal. The floating platforms innovative, but nerve wracking..

But Rihanna is a tan Taylor Swift. Better voice. But stylistically limited. I can understand HAVING her for A song at the Superbowl. But as the ONLY performer? Why not two other seasoned artists with stylistic range and a songbook. Someone country, someone rock n roll? Garth Brooks, Tom Petty would've been great, Bowie, Prince was wonderful, Stevie Wonder. Something new and bolstered with a little old. Willie Nelson. Roberta Flack. There's new country wonderkind. Her name escapes me.

I dislike the lack of mixing it up. The NFL can afford it. And give the poor old TV audience a bone too!

It was maybe 7/10. Certainly better than Maroon 5, Coldplay, and a few others who sounded bad singing live. But she was stiff and shouldve passed up the offer instead of using it as a pregnancy reveal performance. Anyways, I’m just glad her voice sounded decent live. It wasn't as tired sounding as Katy and Gaga eventually sounded after dancing around with no rhythm. But yea Rihannas was nowhere near 9/10 energetic as Beyonce, Bruno, Prince, Kid Rock, nor Aersomith either. And i can't believe she let them lift the platform risking her pregnancy.

Underwhelmed. Better than soem priors that were awful.

Nowhere near as good as some past College Orange bowl half times.

The whole nfl show is over rated waste of time, but good background to talk with family.

Solid performance. Great vocals, but not spectacular. The stage with the hanging platforms looked awesome! The choreography was pretty boring. I get that she is maybe not a great dancer and/or limited by being pregnant, but the backup dancers could have done something more interesting, at least for the dance breaks.

I liked it. I definitely agree with other people that she was a bit stiff and I wish she could have put more energy. Seems like the dancers were carrying the performance and doing most of the work
but she revealed she’s pregnant so I understand that a pregnant woman can only move so much!
There were a couple songs that I wish she performed. Like “don’t stop the music” would have been amazing as the opening song. I’m sad she didn’t sing it at all.

Maybe it was a great experience if you were actually there watching the game. Catching up later on video my main impressions are the distracting platforms and the bad lip-synching. I thought Rihanna's costume was badass though. Can I say badass?

I didn't see it. Saw some of the game, but I don't watch the half time show. Isn't Rihana yesterday's news these days anyway? I thought they would get someone new and on top. I don't know who because I don't keep track of that sort of thing, but I was surprised to hear it was her.

Hated it. I was hoping to like cause it's been so long but it was quite boring. The best thing was the fireworks and the end of it. The game was way better than the halftime show

Rosann Barr got ridiculed in so many ways for grabbing her crotch at a baseball game. Even though she did suck at singing the National Anthem!
