Australian Field Hockey star Matt Dawson has had part of his finger amputated to compete in the 2024 Paris Olympics.

After injuring his ring finger two weeks ago and being told surgery would sideline him for months, Dawson instead chose to have the finger amputated from the knuckle up so he could play at the Olympics.

Must be devastating to spend years training for one event, perhaps your only shot, only to find out you can't compete because of an injury so it's understandable why he did it.

But hockey? It's hardly going to make you a household name is it? Not sure I'd do it but I get the temptation.

Oh HELL no! I was a competitive gymnast, and I’ve won gold medals. But there is no way I would ever allow a physician to amputate part of my body just to compete, that’s just insane!

I think you need to look at this from the view point of someone who has dedicated a huge amount of their life to a sport, who also is there as part of a team, would you be letting your team down.
for me I would not, however I’m not in that position.

As I’m just watching it, Nick Skelton was a UK show Jumper who broke his neck and was told by doctors never to ride a horse again, that was in 2000, he then went onto win Olympic gold in 2012 and in 2016 he won individual gold aged 58 years old, seventh Olympics games. He did not follow what the doctors said.

I guess it be what part of my body. I would want to amputate anything like my arm or leg but like a finger your got 9 other you could stand to lose one. I think toes and fingers would be the only ones I sacrifice if I was really committed to a sport.
