I don't know exactly I think the olympics are on the decline anyway. Only 2 cities were even competing for them. And I think the model is outdated today. There's already talk of competitors to the olympics that are trying to take away some of the attention from there.

Only 4% of the money goes to the athletes. It's way more expensive to have all these sports at the same time in the same place and also all the security costs for this huge event than to have each sport in a place where they already have great infrastructure for that sport. The positive effect of the attention of the city is basically non existent today. In the 70s and 80s it was a huge deal to host the olympics like my dad could name every city that hosted the olympics and the year and it was really important to him but today the olympics are just one event of many.

Don't get me wrong I enjoy the games and the spotlight on sports that usually aren't highlighted but I think the times have just changed a lot and I don't see a good future for this model. They need to rethink things. So the best olympics was probably a long time ago.

When the athletes are real amateurs and they are competing to represent their countries and not get a big shoe contract. I guess today it might be nice if guys did not compete in women's sports too. Also athletes did not refuse to stand for the national anthem.

Outside of the slight animosity between the US and Australia in swimming, I see a lot of friendly competition and respect. Honestly if that swimmer from Australia hadn't decided to be a bit mouth, we'd probably not have any animosity with them. Everyone wants to win, but be classy.
