Groin strikes in sparring?

Is this practiced in any martial art that you know off? I found that to be weird.

It’s Muay Thai (Thai boxing) but without the knees and elbows in sparring. I thought it must be that if it allows groin strikes as that’s what I practice, and that’s confirmed by the video title stating she’s a Muay Thai fighter. This is very normal sparring for some clubs, especially in the East.

Yes a well placed strike that contacts the cup or testicles directly if not wearing a cup will immediately double the person over, most likely putting them on the mat in a lot of pain. If they cannot get up and resume they will be counted out and lose.

Yes, sometimes after a particularly hard hit directly to the balls the person will scream out as they double over and flail around on the mat in agony. They usually turn bright red and sweat profusely as they grab their balls and breath in and out very fast for several long minutes till the pain begins to subside. I have seen some sob or cry from the hit if it catches them just right! It is a very dramatic end to a fight and a thrilling way to win!!!

In krav maga groin kicks are encouraged but the boys always wear a cup

Have you ever dropped a guy with a kick even tho he had a cup on? It can hurt just as much when the cup slams up into your nuts, especially if it has moved out of position during the fight as it often does.

I'm pretty sure it can't hurt "just as much". I dealt quite a low of kicks there and a guy never dropped from this.

I’m surprised you have never been able to drop a guy. If a hard low kick comes up from underneath the cup driving it upwards more so than straight on into the body, the cup will move up and the bottom of the cup slams into the testicles. I’ve seen many guys dropped even tho they are wearing cups. Watch some cup check videos testing the effectiveness of certain styles of cups and you’ll see there is still quite a bit of pain from a hard shot to the cup!!!

I don't think so. I've kicked many guys there, pretty hard. The cups work very well, that's why I always felt comfortable kicking there in practice.
