Why are so many Canadians coping so hard about their hockey loss and not acknowledging their own team’s personal responsibility for its loss?

I’m not one to gloat and rub it in anybody’s face because it was really anybody’s game and it could have easily gone the other way, but still

Instead of acknowledging the obvious and saying “ah fck we lost, gg”,

Why are so many Canadians instead saying all this the “format was unfair” stuff (even though it wasn’t) and they were fine with it earlier in all the games they won.

It’s like you literally had 3 of the top 5 guys in the NHL squaring up against vastly inferior opponents. Wtf?

Its like they might’ve had the better team but they didn’t play the better game.

Just how it goes sometimes.

Why is this so hard to acknowledge?

Playing the better game means winning, not looking the coolest on the ice.

And also the whole “US goalie won them the game stuff”

Its like USA fans could’ve easily coped and called the game unfair and said the same thing about the Four Nations game last year because we were down our two best players and Canada still had all of theirs but we didn’t.

Either way I’m just surprised how instead of acknowledging that they lost because

1) They had a guy miss a wide open net from ten feet away during the regular game

2) They didn’t score during a 5 on 3

3) They f^cked up during overtime and handed the US the win

Why are they instead seeking to blame all these external factors outside of their control like “the format” and “the USA goalie” instead of acknowledging their team’s own personal responsibility for it’s actions that led to its defeat?

Not exactly a winner’s mentality there.

And I’m not saying this applies to all Canadians in particular, but as for the ones this does apply to, I’m just curious why all the mental gymnastics, and the seeming unwillingness to acknowledge personal responsibility.

And also the whole “if we had Crosby we would’ve crushed the USA thing”

You only won by 1 goal with SC last year.

Not exactly a “crushing margin”

And neither were Canada’s other victories this year with Crosby on the team.

Why are so many Canadians coping so hard about their hockey loss and not acknowledging their own team’s personal responsibility for its loss?
