As a pro fighter it’s still an insane risk to take but when it’s what you do for a living you either believe in your abilities or you quit the sport

I’ve never been into combat sports personally but I’ve played other sports and the athlete’s mentality is the same everywhere.

It’s not rational.
Most of the time it’s a bad idea.
But when you give your life to something you identify yourself with it

And ducking the fight would be putting his entire identity in question

That’s why fighters will take on risks that any sane person would stay away from
