Soccer isn't a beautiful game. It's rather boring for the most part. But it does have its moments. The 2022 World Cup Final was the best soccer game that I ever saw and very much enjoyed it and my appreciation for soccer was elevated after that.

I am not sure Morocco defeating France would be a big upset although it would be noteworthy.

Part of the problem with soccer is that it is such a low scoring sport. That's part of the boringness of it. Worse though is that a 1-0 score or any score by a 1-goal difference really doesn't tell you much about who should win and who shouldn't. In other sports where a 1-point or 1-goal difference is involved, like hockey, it is similar. But, the SEASONS are long, so, over the course of a season, you get an idea of who is really better or not. In the World Cup, it's single-elimination after the Group Stage, so it's almost more luck than talent as to who the winner should be. For example, the other day, Belgium soundly defeated the USA, 4-1; with a 3-goal victory, Belgium was clearly the better team and deserved to advance. But what about those teams that lose in a shootout, especially after a 0-0 tie at the end of regulation? Is the team that won the shootout really the better team? Shootouts are really a different sport altogether. It's a kluge solution to ending a tie because scoring is so infrequent in soccer, but they need to end the game. It's the same with hockey and now with baseball which has the ghost runner for extra innings; it alters the sport. Football - real football, that is - also has a slightly corrupted overtime game, but they went a long way to fixing that in recent years.

Anyway, no, Morocco may win, but it won't be stunning.

Good luck to both teams. I may actually watch that game or at least listen to it.

Morocco beating France would be a massive upset, but not impossible. Morocco’s strength is their defensive organization, work rate, and team spirit. They close spaces well and counter quickly.

France, though, has world‑class depth, experience, and big‑game mentality. If Morocco stays compact, defends set pieces well, and is clinical on counters, they can absolutely shock France.
