Much has been made of curses and good luck in elite sports. I kind of understand it at the fan level, but at the competitive level i feel like it’s dismissive of the amount of discipline and hard work that is required to be successful.
Whether as a fan or as an athlete, do you lean into superstitions? Do you have a “lucky jersey” for game day? Do you refuse to wash your socks? Do you store your baseball bat in a shrine for “JoBu”? 🤣🤣🤣 Were the Chicago Cubs or the Boston Red Sox really cursed?

I don’t believe in superstitions causing wins or losses, but I totally get why athletes use them 😊
On tour and in tournaments, I’ve seen (and had) rituals: same warm‑up order, same wristband colors, same pre-match meal, even tying shoes in a set order.
They don’t replace hard work. They just give you comfort, routine, and a sense of control under pressure.
