Why would it be a scam? It's a pretty high quality piece of technology. There may be some rough patches (I'm honestly not sure, haven't been keeping up) with the new cpu, as it's Google's first time making their own for their phones. It's also one of the most open phones in terms of software. Many OSes can only be run on pixel phones because of how open they are.
If you think some of the software/hardware is concerning from a privacy perspective, most is sadly.

The genius thing Google did to lower the price is use cheaper parts and rely on the software and their AI to fill in the gaps. For instance, I've got a Samsung S10+ and my friend has a Google pixel 3 (maybe it was 4?). We both took identical photos using same lighting, same setting, etc and his cane out as good if not better than mine despite having way worse camera specs

Well you can hide stuff in the pic so those scamers will get pic off the web abd erase stuff to scam people with

You can already do that with plenty of software available from either app store. Context aware removal is nothing new. Photoshop has had it for years. Pixel 6 may make it easier or better, but if someone really wants to scam you by changing pictures, the technology has existed forever.
