I did all of my Christmas shopping on the dark web on a site called Silk Road. I bought my wife a non-fair trade cashmere sweater and my kids each got their very own PS5 with the serial numbers filed off.

I took a peek before and mostly just ogled at some marketplaces. Did not search for anything too crazy, does not interest me and I rather not get too comfy in some FBI list because I was hovering around child porn or whatever. As a result I mostly just looked at the other end of what I presume to be credit card and bank frauds.

The whole idea of money laundering by buying things like gift cards using dirty money and them selling it to unrelated people around the world for a cheaper price. They get a smaller amount of clean money and you get a nifty gift card loaded with dirty money that you can simply claim ignorance on and spend it without getting into too much trouble. After all, you have no idea where that money came from now do you? It was just a honest transaction.. totally..

Of course that is just an example, point is there was a lot of ways to make huge profits buying the heavily discounted items on display assuming they where legit and not attempts to scam you including the ability to outright buy more money directly using things like the gift cards I mentioned earlier.

Considering how profitable this is for both the seller who makes money from basically nothing and the buyer who can buy premium items and insane discounts or even just get free money its no wonder everyone gets bombarded with scams.

all sorts of illegal shit. drugs, credit card frauds, hitman sites, sex trafficing sites and all sorts of evils. but that was long ago. i think it's much more tame since the FBI has invested the ressources to controll it. these days, doing illegal shit on the dark web isn't much less risky than doing it on the normal internet anymore.

Yes, you see exactly what you see on the regular web. The difference is there are sites that are blocked on the regular web and the dark web nothing is blocked
