Which are some good and free online sources for learning Unity?

I want to make some small games with Unity bit i am having a hard time getting started.

I tried following a youtube tutorial, but i quickly got lost, as the Unity version was different and things weren't at the same place,...

I know the Unity website itself has offers some material and courses, but its not too easy to navigate (or i am just stupid).

So maybe someone was in a similiar position, trying to learn Unity with free online material and give some usefull links and tips.

Maybe i also made a mistake of googling courses for a specific genre/type of game (Tower Defense)?

In any case i highly appriciate all input on this topic.

Yeah, don't.
Just use Unreal instead.

You are having hard time finding good documentation because there isn't any.
The engine has been fractured into three incompatible pipelines, new features are being shitted out all the time without any documentation and by the time you learn them they will just break them or deprecate them before they even become production ready.
I make crap for Unity and it breaks in virtually every major update.

The Unity team doesn't make anything with the engine, they don't understand what game devs need, it's just an abomination of half-assed ideas they churn out to lure in investors and unsuspecting fools only for their sanity to slowly get digested by Unity's smelly bowels of doom and misery.

I mean, the confusing shit on here https://learn.unity.com/courses that you said that was not easy to navigate, that shit used to be a PAID subscription.
Poor fools spent money on that crap, including myself.

Okay, thats really unexpected to hear.

With all the games made in unity being released on all platforms, Android/Switch/PC... i think unity would be a good versitile engine.

But if you recommend Unreal, i will look at these.

As far as i know Unreal is also free? At least for those who make no or only a small amount of money.

And can you recommend tutorials for Unreal engine?

Yep, unreal is free.
If you make something with unreal and publish it online for profit, you need the publisher license.
There are no upfront costs in Unreal, but with publisher license you would be required to pay 5% royalties after the first $1,000,000.

Unity used to be a lot better, but things have gotten a lot worse due to a lot of redundant design decisions.

Unreal also has its own learning platform that's free to join:

Unity is still usable because lately they have been expanding the engine with things such as visual scripting and visual shader programming which are helpful if you aren't familiar with coding in Unity.
But it's still really lacking in quality of life features, you will have to look for various extensions on the asset store most of which are paid and often expensive https://assetstore.unity.com/
