Is it better to use a thicker smartphone case or a thinner one?

Depends.

If you're in the habit of "dropping" your phone a lot, then it's better to get a bumper case. But if you're in the habit of "spilling" onto your phone, or immersing it, then get a waterproof case.

But screencovers are 99% useless

I wear a thick armored case everywhere, because phones feel too thin and fragile nowadays. Only exception was when I used to go running and then needed to fit the phone into my arm band.

Thinner if a pocket person. All of my vendors have the thick large one but they are in rough trades…

The meterial matters, but with a thicker case you can absorb more shock when it falls down, so the phone takes less damage.

I buy heavy duty screen protectors for mine. My ex girlfriend broke about 10 phones in a year. Mine is still going. I've dropped mine from a height and still safe
