In 🇨🇦, what can collections do? I heard it costs around $5000 to take someone to court and I don’t owe that much so it’s probably not worth it for them. Also I’m on Disability and I’m not sure what they can do with that anyways. I’ve been told to just ignore the calls, as long as I don’t interact with them they can’t do anything. How true is this? I just know a lot of people with debt and nothing ever happened to them for it.
It doesn't cost $5,000 to take them to court, most small claims courts limit the amount you can collect to $5,000. Otherwise you have to go to a more formal court. Small claims court is sort of like Judge Judy, you tell your story, show your evidence, they probably don't even show up and you get your judgment. Collecting it is another hurdle.
You heard wrong. It only costs a few bucks to bring debts to small claims. But in your case if you have a disability you can get it relieved, depending on your circumstances.
