I've never understood that thought process. It's especially ripe on Tiktok- I'll see who follows me and it's just people who follow others in mass just to gain a little attention back. Like, no, I'm not going to buy into your scheme to make fans 😭 if you want high numbers you have to put effort in, pressing a button isn't enough.
But on more personal social media platforms, yeah it's right to follow them back if you know them. If they're an old friend from highschool, a relative, a co-worker, etc. Accounts that you don't know? Don't do it

That is so strange to even consider. I don’t care about followers or following people. I don’t want strangers having insight into my personal life like that.
I suppose if you are interested in having followers then sure, it might be a good idea to follow them back.

Well that is entirely up to you to make that call, on weather it is our not, if those you choose to follow is of interest to you or not, but with most evening you do on line, you must always use caution about who you interact with and how much of you, your exposing, but it's up to you how many you choose to follow and you not obligated to follow someone just because they're following you, again use caution

I have 0 followers on Instagram. I hate it when someone sends me a follow request. Like dude, I am here for cats, cats, bike, beautiful (not hot, OF) girls (as a guy, naturally) and funny reels.

For the most part I only follow people who I am close with or personally know. Do I care enough as to what this person is posting on social media?

And if you follow everyone that follows you it could end up being a lot of people to keep track of.

The best thing to do is don't allow people to follow/add you that you don't know in real life, or at least only people that you frequently communicate with online and know. Keep social media private and don't just add random people.

It’s no right or wrong way.

Usually I follow back but since my page is private, of course I am fully consciously aware of who I allow in my page. So if you don’t feel comfortable don’t feel pressured to follow back.

Depends. Most people will unfollow next week anyway. Following people back really only really makes sense when you’re trying to push a brand or keep communication with someone outside of their personal phone number
