Reddit is an AMAZING website... that is till you post an unpopular opinion... why does it have to be like that?

TL;DR Reddit has a downvote/upvote system, and if you get too many downvotes, eventually you can't post or comment anymore. So unpopular opinions aren't welcome there. You gotta say what everyone else wants to hear.

Not sure if everyone here is familiar with Reddit, but it's a website with various different topics on it that highly thrives on upvotes/downvotes. And those upvotes/downvotes add up to your "karma score." Basically your "points" on there. The more points you have, the better. The less, the worse. If your points get too low you won't be able to post or comment anywhere anymore, because the system will start to detect you as a "bot" or a "spammer."

And as for opinions... to get any upvotes, you pretty much just need to say EXACTLY what people WANT to hear. Like look at what the most upvoted comments are saying, and write a comment like those but in slightly different words.

However... if you share an unpopular opinion... something people DON'T want to hear... oh boy... you're fucked. Here comes the downvotes!

And then you won't be able to post or comment anymore due to your low karma score.

To put it bluntly. Reddit is a corporation. Corporations do not have political ideologies, however they have no problems adopting positions based on what is economically convenient for them at the time. (That is why government regulation works so well by the way) Anyways, that means that corporations will respond to society, not necessarily in a positive way or a useful way but that is besides the point. The corporation will have no problems censoring content which becomes inconvenient for its bottom line, it will do anything to earn more money... But it also means that EVERY corporation will eventually adopt the same or similar policies because they are all following the same market pressure. They all want the same bag of money and there is only one "optimized" way of getting it.

So yeah. Your beef with Reddit is actually you having a problem with capitalism. Because this is exactly how capitalism is intended to work.

While having 'dumb' opinions in general reddits will absolutely get you downvoted there are also reddits where that same opinion will get you upvoted instead.

Really offensive comment about women? Not going to fly.
Go to some sexual misoginy reddit? Instant upvotes.

But yes. Most areas online are echo-chambers. The scary thing is that services like Google learn what results you want. Reddit mostly has the same general opinions as society at large though.

Reddit is loaded with SJWs and Trans terrorists who work their way into being moderators so if you have an opinion they don’t like, they will try and ban you permanently. I was in the 1% form Karma the year they banned me for something small I thought but since no ine watches them, they do what they like.

Pretty much. The lack of downvote button and karma/internet points sure helps.

People can't downvote you into oblivion just because they don't agree with you. They have to discuss with you what they don't like, rather than just passive aggressively downvoting.

Also in Reddit, with too low karma you can't even post... it's the point of no return. It's bullshit.

Years ago on Reddit I had 80,000 karma and they tried to downvote me to oblivion but I could just create a post that was interesting and get another 800 karma quickly so that made the mad as they couldn’t hurt me. I left that account with all that karma and came back years later and quickly accumulated 20,000 karma or so but some Trans nut communist got bent out of shape and perma banned me with his friend’s help. He was a basement dweller whose life is dedicated to trashing people who disagree with him. Total nutjob loser if you ask me.

Technically it SOUNDS like a good idea, but in practice...

The intention of it is to put spammers and trolls in their place.

But people use it as an "I disagree" button even if what you wrote is well-written and didn't mean to offend anybody.

And when your internet points get too low on there, you can't even post anymore.
