Everyone finds AIs annoying (outside of video game NPCs), yet programmers and companies keep putting them in everything, why?

I once had to make a call to a call center to resolve something (i don't remember what it was) and it appears, that an AI was on it trying to direct my call's purpose. It could not detect what I have said or it detected the wrong thing several times in a row. I felt an urge to cancel being their customer.

They probably do it to cut some costs, cut some work or have the AI experimentally deployed (although without the option to get a human on the line).

This is more a question of the foot of all that, what makes them think it will lead to success? Objectively, it will end in failure and can only be a temporary option.

because basically company leader ship are like the "popular kids" on the school yard. they'll do the current trend no matter how dumb that is, cause they fear that they might not be cool.

dude i'm telling you. i've dealt with these people. they are so far out of touch, they basically believe every dumb business consultant that blasts them with cool new words they never heard before. just make up new words for old ship and they will give you all their money even if they get no profit from it. simply cause they fear that somehow what you told them is relevant and other companies will lave them behind xD

yes it most definitely is. and i was shocked my self and disappointed when i learned this. the higher you climb the social ladder, the more you you smell how rotten it is up there.

How high did you make it? I tend to not be interested in social ladders and just sort of do my own thing.

i've worked in a project financed by european social funds, where i got to meet the heads of the german automotive industry. not tooting my own horn here. i was a small fish in that project. but still... these people are really really smart when it comes to what they do leadership wise. but they are so far disconnected from everything else it's not even funny.

and in their industry, "not jumping on the right trend" may cause huge losses. so they jump on many stupid trends that make no sense. it's part of their risk management

From a business perspective, I actually consider it worthless to jump on trends at all.

Better to invent, innovate, reinforce, etc.

Doing what another company is already doing is a bad choice unless you can do it better at a cost people will pay, and thats assuming the need for better is even there.

well what makes the most money to please investors doesn't always seem logical on the surface. i mean why would you make a product intentionally break after 2 years? it's dumb. the customer will get a product that doesn't break after 2 years... but what if no company offered a product like that? well that's where we are. they are optimizing profits together in a huge collective hive mind that is stupid and bad for the customer but good for maximizing profits.

Who is to say that programmers and companies are still doing it? How do we know AI isn't acting on their own?

Because AIs aren't able to program, and will never be able to actually think.

If you had a billion dollars you did nothing to earn and nothing to do but figure out how to have more, you wouldn't think it unattainable enough not to try.

No amount of money is going to end money.
Work will always be needed, and AIs will always be lesser to humans at mosts jobs.

They aren't thinking tha5 far ahead. It's like the child's book that keeps asking "what if everybody did it?" Even if you explained all of this to a billionaire they would still want to remove themselves from having to pay anything, as that would make them better than the other billionaires who do have to pay.

Ther isn't a void, AIs usually just steal positions that people would otherwise occupy, video games are the exception because many games lack enough players to always have a full lobby, so bots that replace missing players are good, as are story and world npcs for quests and narrative. But no one wants an AI for companionship, or guidence, or for an AI to steal their job or answer a phone when we call, or for AIs to harrass us or spy on us. They are basically malware at this point.

Some of them want a "cortana" or "hatsune miku" AI for fap material, or they want a star wars droid thats capable of actual thinking and compassion as a buddy (two things that real AIs will never be capable of) No one actually wants what AIs actually are or can be as a companion.

There is never going to be a real version of alita, t-800 terminator, rosie, c-3po, bishop, etc. or any other sentient robotic lifeform, machinery is very limited compared to organics in what it can do.
