They can access it without unlocking your phone. And when you send a call or message to first responders, it sends your info and location to them and to your emergency contacts.

Someone's not seeing the situation clearly, if someone is currently shooting holes into your car while you are in it, what the hell is your contact information gonna do, I'll tell you what, the only thing it will do at that point is make the cops and hospitals jobs easier by making it easy to identify the aftermath, which is most likely you leaking your fluids all over your cars carpets, nothing I said is contradicting, unfortunately even when I'm death my family's feelings will be in shatters if I were to die, i care about their feelings, if you think emergency contact information is taking precautions then you simply never seen actual danger before considering you have such an unrealistic point of view on the reality of it, your emergency contact isn't going to save you, even if someone was assaulting you, cops would arrive with your face all purple, if you were gonna get raped the cops will arrive during the act at the fastest, how about you get yourself a gun and have an actual effective form of precaution
