Why do some people like to Photoshop things/people out of their images?

Sometimes, I see posts on another site asking to edit out this person from an image. I don't understand why people want to do this. They are altering reality and I don't understand why someone would want to do that. Pleasant or not, that photo captured what happened.

Also, I find that a selling point for a phone (Pixie) would be to remove people/objects from pictures weird too. It's weird to me that both a company/consumer could see this as a good thing.

I feel like the image now represents 'falsified data'. I wonder if future historians will be able to rely on our images.
