I never owned a gaming laptop, I did a google search, and here is what it says.

"While not entirely impossible, using a gaming laptop on your lap is generally discouraged due to the potential for overheating and damage to the laptop. Gaming laptops produce a lot of heat and rely on proper airflow to cool their components. Placing the laptop on your lap can restrict this airflow, leading to overheating and potentially damaging the laptop's motherboard and other components."

LOL, depends on the monster you go for. 60% of gaming laptops can be used on the lap. It's the chunky "full fat" ones that can be a struggle.

High performance electronics does get hot, that's true. You could place a pillow underneath.
But then... these tiny keyboards and that shitty mouse pad arrangement would rather call for a desktop, I think.

Well, then: make sure that it can shed its heat. High temperatures slow it down and on the long run reduce its lifetime.
But then: no illusions... this stuff is not longer made to last anyway. And in a few years from now they are outdated, too. /// That's one reason why I prefer desktops: For a while we can upgrade or replace components a lot easier. A laptop actually only makes sense if its owner moves around a lot.

I use mine for video encoding because the dedicated video cards makes the task fast. I also have each on quadruple fan cooling stands while in use. I would not use one on my lap except if only browsing.
