it's not illegal... such laptops still have a use here and there
besides, you can also buy laptops with no RAM at all... which is perfectly legal
and then you can get your own RAM or expand it as well
Unfortunately, most of these e-waste laptops have soldered ram so no way of upgrading the ram unless the planets are perfectly and you find a 4 leaf clover then there's an empty ram slot lol.
I still have one of those laptops, and old one too... and still has its use
it's just very specific uses that would not require more ram or processors
and then of course... there's always linux, or terminals...
You choose what you buy. It would be illegal to sell those without telling you that's what it is, but if you choose it, it's your problem.
Many people aren't tech savvy so they just buy whichever laptop is cheap not knowing they are buying e-waste.
It's simple. Either it's useable and then they can sell it, or it's not and then you can return it 🤷♀️
If you're dumb enough to buy one you get what you deserve.
I'd never buy one, but there are plenty of people who aren't dumb, they just don't know much about the technical aspects of computers and buy theses type of computers not knowing how bad they are, it's why manufactures still sell them.
4gb of ram in 2026 is insane.. even 8gb now is outdated. 16 is the standard
The laptop would be useless so you could argue that it violates consumer protection laws.
I have 32 GB of Ram and with all of the Adobe Creative Suite programs I leave open as I'm always switching from one to the other and back again I still run out of RAM.
I've got Windows 11 to run on around 1GB. The more fancy shit you want, the more RAM you need.
Think of it like having a Honda, but expecting a Ferrari performance.
Most software for computers need a hell of a lot more memory to run smoothly
