Dumb phone if it were my kid. I'd still educate them that 📱🤳🏻 exist what's an app etc - duh 🙄. I'd prefer they appreciate a classic-like Nokia the way I did until they're 18

Both my kids (13 and 11) already have a smart phone that is pretty locked down with parental controls. It only turns on at certain times and we can lock it down the rest of the time if they are misbehaving or not doing their chores. We can also see when they are trying to download apps. Some things even prompt us to ok them before they can use it. I find it's a good compromise for them having a smart phone until they get older and we remove the restrictions.

No. Not really. We give them enough freedom to explore the world around them but keep up enough guardrails to keep them safe. My son loves to do different things like coding and video editing right now and he can't really do much with a dumb phone in looking stuff up as he can with a smart phone.

My daughter just zones out on youtube short videos (mostly about anime) which kinda drives me nuts. I want her to be more social. That one is a real challenge at times.

I got my kids a dumb phone. It stayed in the car the three of them shared.
