+1 yYes.
A beach or lake is nice except that, in my case, I'd have to travel at LEAST 3 hours to get to a lake and maybe 8 hours to get to an ocean. Having a pool in my back yard for over 20 years was REALLY nice!!00 Reply
+1 yI wouldve said beach but the sun is to damn hot so pool it is because I could swim at night. I don't know why people bathe in lakes you never know whats in there and i could say the same with beaches. Truly scary.

+1 yi like the beach better because you can get more sun rather than a pool but the sand on the beach drives me crazy lol

I grew up on a lake, spent most of my life in or on the water, liquid or frozen.
They can offer so much more than a pool, most lakes are open to any kind of water sports, skiing, boating, jet skis, sailing, scuba diving, fishing, just crusing around, as well as all of the winter sports.
Ice fishing, cross country skiing, snowmobiling, skating hockey, ice diving.
Pretty much year round activities.10 Reply
+1 yPool and a Lake, for these 2 reasons.
No sharks in lakes and the water has no salt in it.
I dont swim in the sea for the above reasons but mostly for this reason.
When I was 8, I was staying with my aunt & uncle and they live close to a beach. Once day when just paddling with my dad, I got caught in a rip and dragged out to see, I dont remember much except been dragged under the water and my uncle & dad reviving me on the beach, I almost drowned that day.10 Reply

I prefer a Pool cause it's well treated with chemicals and lacks bacteria
some Lakes, Beaches can contain bacteria in the water30 Reply
+1 yYou should of said ocean instead of beach. The reason is many places when people say they are going to the beach it's another way of saying going to the lake.
Where I live it's either the lake or a pool.11 Reply- +1 y
True
+1 yI like an element of danger and I’d take sharks over alligators.
29 Reply- +1 y
I take that back.. bull sharks do reach lakes. Still don’t like to bother alligators.
- +1 y
I take that back most lakes have neither, but most have Naegleria fowleri.
So still beaches.
(Ignore my boredom lol) - +1 y
I am from the great white shark capital of America. I don't go in the water here.
- +1 y
@LindsayLesling No fun at all. lol
- +1 y
Haha and the water is dark and cold; which makes it even scarier (non-visible)
- +1 y
@LindsayLesling Cold, dark, great whites. Sounds like a lovely sat afternoon at the beach. 😎

@nawtee_me I always new my respect for alligators was not unfounded. 😎
Lakes can have beaches and the water is usually warmer and there is no salt. The problem can be that the water isn't very clean and you end up more dirty than you went in.

No chlorine, no salt, just fresh water. If you pick a dirty lake that's on you, same as if you have a dirty pool or go to a trashed beach.
- +1 y
My preferred choice wasn't up there, which is rivers. But the lakes I swim in are not dirty and not expected to be; but also they aren't heavily populated. Humans are dirty, so in more populated areas I guess the "natural" lakes are dirty. But some of the lakes I swim in you can drink the water from them.
+1 yI'll rank them, this is for swimming purposes only, pool, lake and then the beach. Now if it's for the atmosphere and entertainment. Beach would be first, lake second and the pool third
10 ReplyFor swimming only, I'd say Lake, Pool, and the Beach. For social and fun, Beach, Pool, Lake.

+1 yAs for me I love the beach & I love my solar therapy days. As for swimming like a fish I am & swimming in the ocean & with the waves I belong.

+1 yPool just seems more safe and sanitary even though I heard stories kids peeing in the pool. I am not much a swimmer I just hang and maybe get a little sun. Play some beach volleyball and throw a football around.

+1 ywell in my area there are only pools, I love swimming in a pool with warm 35°C water and to relax, lakes here are always cold except its more than 2 weeks over 30°C outside

+1 yI prefer lakes and pools to swim. I never had a good swimming experience at the beach.

Lakes are natural. They don't smell of chlorine. They don't have waves that try to knock you down.
Most people don't swim at the beach. They either sit at the beach, or at best, wade into the water.
Pools smell of chlorine, but at least they don't have waves, so you CAN swim.
I'm afraid of what kinds of things could be in ocean and lake water, so I prefer actual swimming in a pool.
