What was your biggest shock when visiting another country?

Experiencing a winter Christmas was very strange for me, and how cold it was, I was not prepared to feel like I needed to wear 3 pairs of socks.

When I visited East Asian for the first time (Taiwan), I was very shocked by the casual racism and discrimination that took place there. Like as an example, we could be standing in line for something, and they would help the Asian customers first, even if we had been there before them. And they in general gave much better treatment to other Asians. But mostly it was things like preferring to stand, then sit next to us on the bus. There was definitely a strong distrust, and the Leftists call it "being cautious", but if White people did the same thing, we would be called racist.
I definitely felt a sense of entitlement and Asian supremacy when I was there, like anyone who doesn't look, talk or act like them is a lesser being, and therefore deserves to be treated as much.

You can sugarcoat it was much as you want, but this was pure racism and Asian Supremacy.

My biggest shock was Russia. I had to admit my first time going there, I was terrified.

I just thought since I was "Black", I should just stay in my hotel room. Then I was coming back from the office and I was riding up in the elevator to my room. A young woman and her little daughter were in the elevator with me.

The little girl keep looking at me with a really troubled face.

I began to think. . ."oooohhhh shit".

But then the elevator doors opened and she stopped and turned around as they were leaving and said. .

"ohhhh bye bye!"

And I smiled and said, "Bye bye baby".

I think that helped me to open up a little bit and take a chance with talking to and getting to know the Russian folks who were my clients.

I remember the first time my family went to Italy, and we did not know siesta was a thing.
Such a curveball when we needed to buy food.

Good thing we learned from our mistake and became much better to plan around it.
It was like... 14-15 years ago or something. I don't really remember the year.

They are so aggressive and angry, and also somehow nonsensical. They're like less funny more angry Japanese commercials.

Also, the size of a small anything in Texas. A small fries is LITERALLY a shoebox piled to bursting with fries. I do not understand.

A rocket attack and aircraft shot at as we came into land.

it was a bit unnerving and there was no gin & tonic served after the inflight meal.

Disembarking was a tad quicker than normal.

Then for the next 6 months the locals kept putting on firework displays

Never really been shocked. Maybe St Petersburgh where at one block there was a centuries old church, then something new getting built, and total slums and empty stores next. Differences between opulent and destitute were vast.
