Which do you prefer - West Coast US or East Coast US?

When asked which US Coast she prefers, actress Niccole Thurman said this... "People on the East Coast seem mean, but they're nice. West Coast people seem nice, but they're secretly mean. East Coast, because I like to feel abused but taken care of." Do you agree with her? Which US Coast do you prefer?

The West Coast has a bit more of a laid-back vibe than the East Coast. However, in some parts of the former there is a pretense of friendly which is insincere, or avoidant of being completely direct and honest. (Which is good in that it is non-confrontational, but it is also not entirely authentic, which is also annoying.)

East Coast is rougher, tougher, has more edge, more open competitiveness, more grit, and they pride themselves on being 'real'. ("I don't pretend. If I don't like you, I tell you to your face", maybe more so.) The weather is also much more challenging in the East, and being able to adapt to and tolerate that without whining is also a badge of honour.

If we're comparing cultures and people, and zeroing in on that, I think there's a sort of gruffness associated with East Coasters, and an insincere niceness associated with West Coasters, but you do have to compare cities of equal size, roughly, because it's not just the weather and geography that creates a culture; it's population density. The more dense, the less people tend to interact, in many ways, unless it's necessary. It's a way of securing some semblance of personal space and privacy, in an environment that is actually anything but.

Which do I prefer? I like the energy and vivacity and multiculturalism of the East Coast (I know NY, but not other places well.) It's invigorating. For a while. Then it's exhausting and too loud and sensory-fatiguing. I like natural beauty + history + progressive attitudes but not too much focus on them. I like authenticity and social decorum (people actually giving a shit to try and get along.) I like the West Coast for the flora and fauna, ocean, mountains, and especially trees of the upper coast. I like 4 seasons and a good dump of snow every year, and very cool summers. Right now I can't find any place that has everything and that is a real problem. Every place has gotten worse, and I'm including before covid times.

I guess this question is pretty subjective. This would depends on one's personal preferences and experiences. Also, people from the each coast are more likely to say that where they live, is better.

They both have their pros and cons. Generally speaking, the West Coast has a more laid back vibe to it while the East Coast is much more in a hurry and all about business, there are plenty of opportunities and things to do, but also fierce competition there. East is greener and humid, west is more open and dry. Both areas have good beaches in places

There are good and bad people everywhere and it is always possible to surround yourself with good people. I live on the East Coast and my family has lived in the same area - northeast Florida - for 232 years. We don't move very often and, when we do, we don't move very fast. It's not really a choice; it's a destiny!

I’m an East Coast guy for sure, but I’ve been to Los Angeles and I definitely loved it out there too, so I could hang anywhere. But I think being from the Northeast I’d probably be considered rude or mean-spirited to people from elsewhere😂

I prefer East Coast because of wet, humid, and moist environment. It's better for my sinuses.

After living on the West Coast I've developed terrible allergies and it seems that we're constantly in a drought. Plus everything seems more expensive out West, especially in California.

As someone from the east coast I have to represent them. I'm from Massachusetts and we are considered massholes because we're notoriously rude. It's the last thing people expect from us I think. The thing is though, once you break that hard shell m&m exterior we have a soft chocolate center. Basically, we're rough around the edges but once we get close to people, we're good. Of course, these are all stereotypes to begin with so take it with a grain of salt.

Well, that may be true about the people, or not. All I know is that the West coast is very beautiful. Were it not for the natural disasters that happened there frequently, or how expensive it is to live there, I would choose to live on the west coat just for the weather. I can find friends anywhere.

Both suck ass, but east coast is worse. My dad was a truck driver and finally refused to go anywhere northeast because the people there made it such a pain and not worth the money.
