Can anyone please tell me what's an e ticket and how coes this work in the airport without an actual ticket?

An E-ticket is an electronic version of a paper ticket- something which I haven't seen in years. An E-ticket records your flight information stored in the airline's reservation system and can be download and stored on your phone or other device. You can also print a copy and use the hardcopy like a printed ticket.

This is (normally) a smooth and error free system... normally.

I think its just any regular ticket but not printed on paper but an QR Code sent via email or an app.

There's no qr code so I thought that was strange I presume after online check in the only barcode I need will be on boarding pass , does that seem right to you?

I don't know, but a barcode is just a more simple QR code. If you are confused, i think its best to check the FAQs or contact customer support.
