Why does Europe have such low quality accommodations?

They pride themselves so much on tourism, but the quality of their "hotels" is shit compared to what we have in the Americas. Even third world Latin American countries have better tourist accommodations than Europe. What are these people so proud of and so cocky about?

Every time I plan a trip to Europe, I have problems finding a reasonable accommodation. I've only had ONE good accommodation in Europe, in the Polish Tatras.

I see only the French and maybe the British have accommodations that live up to American standards. The French I'm not surprised, because they invented Club Med and hiking chalets.

I never been to the US and only stayed in a hotel once in Europe, (usually we rent an appartment or house or go camping... literally anything besides a hotel)

But from reading the 14 points in the linked article i can say these:

Most things are simply the european standard in most buildings, like the missing AC, only a handfull of houses got AC at least in middle and northern Europe (Germany, Netherlands, Denmark...) Not sure about southern european countries like spain or italy.
Same for heating, you got a radiator on the wall and thats it, sometimes when you are really fancy you also got floor heating and rarely a fireplace, but thats generally just for looks.

Same for how the Bathrooms are built, the described situation is simply the standard in many homes. Usually a shower, sometimes a bathtub, with shower, and only in really big places you got both.
Or the Situation with towels and Soap and all the other stuff.

As for the beds you usually have a little graphic what kind of bed you got, is it one big double bed, or 2 separate beds, or is there a small bed for a child, ... and if you aren't sure you can ask.

Stuff like soft yolked boiled eggs, thats how we like it, and its also a sign for the freshness, as a hardboiled egg, may sit there for a while and just be kept warm. And in many places you can also get scrambled eggs and many other fancy stuff.

I don't remember what other points were mentioned, so to summerize, Hotels are simply build like any other house in the neighbourhood. And you usually can see what you will get on the corresponding website.

well mayhe you shouldn't book the cheepest shit shacks xD... but jokes aside: there's a HUGE difference between eastern and western european countries. i was in america before and i'm honestly wondering how you have any standards coming from there.

it's like you don't even get a cheap hotel and litterally the shower heads are falling off the walls and everything is a crappy plasitc facade.

Europe probably has a lot more options within each price range than 'the americas'.

In south/central america, you're either going to a 4-5* all inclusive or staying in a middle of the road. Which will be more like a hotel in the slums. Whereas in Europe, a 2-3* will typically be within walking distance of the higher end resorts.
