Which Beach city is better to travel to Myrtle Beach or Pensacola/ Destin?

I have been to Myrtle several times because my aunt and uncle live only 30 miles from there. I want to go to the Pensacola/Destin area because people say it's much better and a little cheaper than Myrtle. Myrtle Beach, over the years, has turned into a very kitschy and gimmicky place but is still fun.

If you have never done Pensacola before, why not try it? It and the rest of the Florida Panhandle are humorously referred to as "The Redneck Riviera".

We always went to Oak Island, NC -- the anti-Myrtlw Beach Rent a house, cook your own meals, hang out on an uncrowded beach.

Never been to Mertyl. I swam once in Pensacola, the sand was like power and the water so blue, you just have to watch out for sharks

If you go to Myrtle, you don't need to pay for accommodation. Just tip up at your aunt & uncle's place.

A good suggestion for you is Murramarang National Park. It is very near Myrtle Beach. It's good place to relax it's out of the way and not too many people. Tell us if you go

Maybe if you want to surf. The ocean is too cold for pleasant swimming. It's cold all the way down to San Diego.

@slatyb I have no trouble swimming and surfing in it in the summer. When it gets cold a wetsuit is needed.

The ocean in the Gulf and along the Caroline coast is quite pleasant -- 80F through September.

@slatyb Yes, that would be VERY nice. I hate wearing a wetsuit!!!
