Which car seems better to travel in?

I’m going on a cabin trip this summer (super excited). The trip is about 220 miles one way and it’s a 4 hr drive. We don’t know which car we should drive. 2013 Honda Civic Coupe (my car) , Pros: 30 mpg, brand new tires, everything works great, less than 100k miles. Cons: very little space, a bit uncomfortable for long travel, 2 door, no trunk space. 2013 BMW 3 Series (their car), Pros: Lots of space, run flat tires, 4 door, drives decently, very comfortable. Cons: 14.5 mpg (horrible on gas).
Between us we will each have 1 suitcase plus the groceries for the trip and possibly my small dog.

Personally when it comes to traveling by vehicle I suck up the uncomfort and go for gas economy, I took a trip from Florida to Tennessee and then the trip back (approximately 36 hours) in a Nissan that wasn't so good with gas and in gas it took $700, yep almost 1k in just gasoline and according to what you are gonna do on your vacation or trip, you are most likely gonna waste more, you'll also be using the same car around I assume so that's more gas money.

Depends whether you care about the cost of gasoline. The BMW will be more comfortable and more fun to drive, but will need more gasoline, and it probably requires 91 octane.

I plugged in estimates on this website, and the civic would ask for something like 70-80 bucks round trip. The bmw would cost over 100. I feel like you can get by in the smaller civic if it’s a less than one week trip, because the bulk of your packing would realistically be clothes and toiletries. As long as you don’t pack your whole kitchen and living room, I think you’ll get by. In terms of practicality and reliability, I’m sticking with the civic.

@abc3643 brought up a good point about the civic being cheaper and easier to get service for. BMWs are notoriously expensive to repair, and with the more common civic you shouldn’t have any troubles getting help from a mechanic if and when some car trouble should occur.

Bmw looks better, but i choose the honda.
Because i know someone who owns a bmw and he said they purposely ensure all parts are custom to bmw, and are not interchangeable and very expensive.
So you have no choice but to go to the dealership for all maintenance and parts replacement and they really rip you off

Yes I know ! And we will be driving through a bunch of small towns and there won’t be a dealership around for miles.

The 3 series isn't that much bigger than the Civic and it has lousy cup holders and lousy gas mileage. Other than the 4 doors vs the 2 doors, I'd go with the Civic.

I have a 2 door civic… the 3 series is much bigger than a 2 door civic.

1. The Civic is cheaper to operate.
2. The Civic is easier and cheaper to maintain / get service for.

Well first off i'm glad you're not going on this trip by yourself and secondly I would take the b m w the honda civic is kind of small and you don't wantna be cramped up on a long ride

That 3 series shouldn't get that bad of gas mileage unless he's got an M3 or isn't driving 120 mph everywhere lol. I say take the civic it's not that far. That's not a really long drive and that Honda is less likely to break down.

Front shoulder room in both civic coupe and 3 series is identical to the.1 inch. From the front seats both these cars have around the same room. Someone mentioned cup holders in bmw suck and they're correct. Go Honda. If you're just two of you no reason to car about the back. A 3 series is not comfortable for any adult over 5'9 in the rear seats anyway

I would go with the BMW simply for the space and it has 4 doors. Easy for everyone to to get in and out.

I think the BMW would cost $50 or $60 more for gas so I guess it depends if the comfort is worth that!

Check out reliability and the costs of maintenance. Also Fuel Economy. BMW's tend to be thirsty.

They're both ok. I personally would like the BMW just because it's probably more luxurious, but Honda is a great dependable car.

Get the Honda Insight (EX or Touring both are good)

I like the Ninja Star rims and it's a hybrid that gets almost 50 mpg
