Of course they are but a city needs to be planned for bicycles to be viable. In the Netherlands you can go anywhere by bicycle and have your own lane but in most other places you're always in danger of being hit by a car and that's not fun. Switzerland is one of the better ones when it comes to cycling but it's still not that appealing to me in the city. I hope they can keep improving things. If I felt safe and relaxed cycling everywhere then I'd buy into biking. But atm I just take public transportation because it's fast and cheap and reliable and less stressful.
What happens if it rains? what do you do in the winter? Then when you get to work you will need to take a shower, how does that work?
Yes, but there are some people (like me) who can't ride a bike. And in order for this idea to even work, for it to be a viable alternative to either a car or public transport, would require it be implemented only in densely-packed large cities. Many people, however, live in small country towns (like me). I own and drive a car simply because I'd be stuck at home all the time if I didn't.
No because one bike causes 50 cars to travel at 10mph behind it for miles

If you live in a community where they have made provisions for bicycles and the weather is mild, then go for it. My problem is that I live 19 mile from the nearest town and have to travel gravel roads. It is 99 (f) outside right now and in the dead of winter it will be -10 (f) . Not a reasonald choice.
In theory, yes. But the infrastructure in the US isn’t designed for it. Electric bikes are becoming popular. But they take lithium batteries. Which makes pollution to build and tears up the earth to extract the necessary rare earth minerals.
Plus most bike riders do not follow traffic laws and gas taxes pay for the bike lanes.
Absolutely, wish everyone understood that
I would prefer running though cause that works me out more.. found cycling too easy
Also it is also nice if you can stick to public transport like bus for long distances
Like if there's a regular bus/train to the place you wanna go why not take it!
Of course they are "greener" in every possible way, at least compared to cars/motorbikes/trains/busses/planes/...
They are not "greener" compared to something like walking.
Yes, but you need the proper infrastructure (dedicated bike lanes) for safety. Most places in the US don't have a bicycle infrastructure, emphasizing cars.
greener than walking? not short. but medium necessary
Absolutely. They are healthy exercise, too! 😊
Yeah I'm curious how someone thinks bicycles aren't green...
Not only they are greener but also good for your health.
Yeah I think so , just not electric ones because they require charging from a generator that uses fossil fuels
Yes and more energy efficient than even walking,,,
Sure, if you live in a hamlet.
ultimate green is walking
Obviously...
I think so
Sure
nope
Why do you say that?
yes they are.
