Why do so many people in other countries think that Americans think or act a certain way?

Americans think/act in every way possible. There isn't a type of person that we don't have here.

Because foreigners like me we get our picture of Americans from the people that get portrayed in the media either in documentaries or movies, talkshows and so on.
It's basically based on stereotypes that are probably true in some ways of many but not of all people.
But I would assume that there are some Americans that do it vice versa assuming how people from other act just based on stereotypes.

That´s for sure. I´m just saying there are certain stereotypes that are often talked about or thought of any country but they don´t show the real situation of a country.

True, but the US is a bit like the UN so it would include ones from every country.
