In a carpark with marked out bays do you drive straight in on arrival and reverse out on leaving or reverse in on arrival and drive straight out when you leave.

I reverse in because it's easier to see for getting out.

Here in Texas people FLY through the parking lots, AND the BIG TRUCK is the Texas State vehicle. If you pull in nose forward, as you back out you run the risk of parking lot collision. If you back into the parking spot, you can see any vehicle well before they have the opportunity to collide with you. Couple this at a Bar, and a collision. The 1st thing the responding police officer will ask is - "have you been drinking". You are now sunk from a parking lot fender bender. Back into a blind parking spot. It will make you life a lot easier upon exit.

I tend to drive in forward between the lines and i try to also find a spot that is the last one in the row to give me room to get my baby out. However there are rare occasions I have deliberately parked slightly over the line, because I know if I don't someone will park next to me making it difficult for me to get my baby out of the car.

It's seems cars have gotten bigger and wider, but they haven't catered the parking spots, so sometimes if a car parks right next to you, you sometimes have to suck your stomach in to get in and out of the car because it's so tight.

Summer times, I like to park in shaded areas. Or just go with the flow like everyone else. I can back in or head in. Or parallel park in the city and hope for the best.

I almost always back in and drive out. From a safety perspective it is always safer as you see the area you are going to back into when you pull up. When leaving, first movement forward, you get a view of the area you are pulling out into.

A very high percentage of accidents are caused by backing out of parking stalls and many pedestrians have been run over.

First movement forward is a safety philosophy for many corporations and has reduced collisions significantly. Think about how many times you read in the news of a child backed over in a driveway. This process should be applied at home as well as public parking areas.

In shop car-parks I generally drive straight in, trying for spaces where I can drive through and out the other side (there are three spaces opposite the two disabled spots that are particularly good for that in my favourite supermarket). When I get home, I reverse in, unless there's something really long to get out of the back.

I am just like you , my little cuddly Pop's. It's much easier to do the reversing in, when you have been driving for sometime and have your eye set-in. However, when you just get in a car, and especially in the mornings, when your eyes and body is not yet warmed up to driving, it's much more of a pain to jump through hoops of fire. Depends on the situation and the mood I'm in.
Supermarket forwards so I can load the boot.
My drive if it's late at night forward as I can use follow mode on the headlights to light the keyhole. Day time I might reverse.

A. What car I'm driving. if the car has low handling, reversing in can be a real challenge.
B. is it a parking lot that is crammed? If so no; I avoid reversing in.
generally I try to get to a front out first exit.
if parking on the side of a road in a crammed space, reversing is actually a lot easier, once you got the technique down.

depends on when i commit to a space and the surroundings. for instance i pull in to the parking for mcdonalds to wait for food, as it's easier to reverse out of the place i go to. Shopping i plan the space ages before and reverse in.
