Colorado is beautiful. Denver is an amazing city with fairly moderate weather and from there you only a 1 - 2 hour drive from dozens of the best ski resorts in North America. Including the highest with some of the longest seasons.

Down south from Colorado Springs to Durango is also amazing.

Minnesota is nice, but it's less exciting outdoors and far colder in the winter and warmer in the summer. Minneapolis can be well be zero for lengthy periods in winter.
