Have you traveled to a foreign country and used your cell phone? What plan did you use?

Did you use your current cell phone plan, but add on service for the country that you went to? Or did you purchase a "sim card" for the country that you went to and plug that into your cell phone? Just wondering what option to use.

OK when I got to Mexico, I got a text from my cell carrier that I would be covered there for an extra $5 per day while I was there. So I was able to make calls and receive calls, and text, with no additional charges besides the $5 per day. HOWEVER I got a few phone calls while I was on the ship, while at sea, I answered those calls. I ended up being charged $2 a minute for those calls!! Had something to do with the ships cell phone transponder and not being on the cell towers in Mexico.

For how long?

When I was in Europe for 3 weeks I stuck to T-Mobile. I used my data, WiFi, and text. Didn’t talk on the phone since they charged.25 a minute.

When I was in Korea for 2 years I got their service and just popped their SIM card in my phone.

Not for long. I'll check with my provider and see what their options are.

Within the EU its all changing easy peasy to the cell phone provider of the other country.

If you travel from Germany to Netherlands (or between any other countries of the EU), you simple get a massage welcome to the netherlands and when going back its the same deal.

And as i never traveled outside the EU i never had to think about foreign cell phone providers.

My T-mobile plan works fine in Mexico, Canada, and various European countries. Voice is 25 cents a minutes, text and data is free.

I'll have to check with my provider before going the sim card route then. 25 cents a minute is not bad.

I traveled within the European community. There is no need to buy a separate SIM card or sign a separate contract.

No. I just bought a cheap prepaid card. But... It also meant not using my number and having a local number.
