The Maldives sound appealing now.

If the Maldives aren't so far away from where I live (California), I'd return to the Maldives for another visit.

By default, I usually travel to Hawaii to just kick back & chill.

The Maldives, like Bora Bora & Fiji, are destinations for couples & honeymooners.

They're also kid-friendly but parents would rather exclude their kids from this type of outing.

The couples that vacation in Bora Bora, Tahiti and/or Fiji are more fun-loving & adventurous.
Those are the types nice to be explore with.
The couples in Maldives are more laid back, chill.
However, the hosts in the Maldives are more accommodating.

If that's happening there now, then lucky me that we went there way before that.
I didn't see any of that. That didn't occur when I was there. We did our homework before we visited.
Is that your actual experience or just something you gathered from the internet?

I'd advice you to do some homework about travel destinations but I'm sure you already know that. :)

That was a couple years ago. But the country had the highest per capita rate of people running off to join ISIS. They've literally outalwed all other religions, even non-Sunni sects of Islam, they confiscate religious paraphanelia at the airport and I've read stories of foreign women being beaten and jailed for wearing bikinis. The U. K. even issued a travel advisory a few years ago, because locals said they're gonna start killing tourists. Of course, you won't see any of that in the resorts where the tourists go, but I don't know why anyone would want to support a country like this.
You can get the same kind of beaches, water, reefs and resorts on other islands that are far cheaper and aren't inhabited by uncivilized savages who want to kill me for not banging my head 5 times a day to their god.

And no, I haven't been to that shithole.

For sure. I know people that went to Maldives it is purely a honeymoon type place. The service is absolutely on another level... but the money you spend it kinda makes sense. I would only go there with my wife for a honeymoon..
