The island of Kythira (Κύθηρα), is located off the southern tip of Greece's Peloponnese. The 115 square mile island is home to just 3644 residents. It is officially part of the Ioaninan Islands, despite not being located anywhere near the rest of the chain. The island is the mythical birthplace of Aphrodite, and is home to beautiful towns and villages, Greek monasteries, Venetian fortresses, Byzantine ruins, a gorge, limestone caves, waterfalls and a beautiful beaches and water. Sadly, it's ancient Greek ruins including the oldest temple dedicated to Aphrodite, are no longer standing, but its relics can still be viewed at the local archaeological museum. The island's architecture is a unique blend of Venetian and Cycladean. Off its neighboring island of Antikithira, the world's oldest computer was found. Despite having so much to offer, the island's location and difficult access, has left it largely untouched by tourism. The majority of tourists are Greeks and Greeks from Australia.

This may be my new favorite Greek island.
