There isn't one good honest person in that city. They're all liars, robbers and con artists. There are some beautiful areas of course, but it's honestly not as beautiful as most people think. There's a lot of dirt, trash and graffiti. It's so very crowded, chaotic and disorganized. It's also expensive and the food is mediocre at best. But mostly it's the shitty people who live there who completely ruined it. If you're not being racially harassed by Africans, some asshole is trying to scam you. It's honestly the worst city I've ever stayed at. But I'm not alone. It seems half the people who go there love it and half the people who go there hate it. I told myself I will never recommend that place to anyone. Go to Venice or Pisa instead. Tivoli is also a great alternative, but unfortunately you still have to go through Rome to get there. If you're still adamant just visit the main sites and the baths of Caracalla and get out as quickly as you can.

That's where most of the scammers are, but what I meant by that is, it's not a place where you wanna spend several days. Two days tops. Just see the iconic sites and go somewhere else. That was the biggest mistake I made. I feel if I didn't spend so much time there, I might have a different opinion. Big cities aren't for everyone. I only went there because it has the cheapest flights from my city with the least connections, and it's centrally located so it was easy to visit other parts of the country from there. But it's honestly so exhausting. I would recommend to either get a hotel within walking distance from the iconic sites, or just take a tour. The issue with Rome is, everything is so spread out. Vatican is too far from the Colosseum to walk. It would probably be best to just take a tour.
